I would like to have a batten instead as this breaks up and goes all over the yard. Birds like cotton. I use a cage to keep the cotton in.

I have Male canary who likes to take small pieces and scatter them all around. He then gathers them again and moves them around before he drops them outside of the cage. He plays for hours. I also have a small nest that he likes to put them in. I thought he was a female but found out I was wrong. Only Male canaries sing.

This bedding is coarse and hard (for smaller birds) to pull apart and carry away. I normally buy from the pet section at the grocery store - the bedding is smooth and silky soft, so all birds from large to small use it easily and with enthusiasm. This bedding is definitely not for hummingbirds, too harsh and tough, I only ordered it in because I couldn't get to the store quick enough and nest building is going strong NOW. Still good for jays and such, but a soft bedding that covers ALL birds delivers more uses taking less space.
