The product page online claims that these magnifying glasses provide 3x magnification, but I found that not to be true.I tried several of these and held them over various examples of small print in books, magazines, product packages, etc. The edges of the lens distort the image badly all the way around the edge of the lens if you hold the magnifying glass further than 1 or 2 inches away from the object you want to magnify. Moreover, I could not get any useful magnification. MAYBE the image magnified slightly (to 1.2 or 1.3 times the normal size), but that is not useful magnification. It was definitely not possible to get 2x or 3x magnification from these "magnifying" glasses (that don't actually magnify anything).I was hoping to pop one of these into trick or treat bags next Halloween along with candy as a little novelty gift that kids might enjoy, but I certainly would not give these away to kids because they don't magnify (and they distort the image you are trying to magnify).I used to get a kick out of playing with a similar size of magnifying glass when I was a kid, and I remember clearly that the one I used actually worked to magnify images, focus the sun's rays, etc. So I know how a magnifying glass is supposed to work.This product simply doesn't work and is a definite "do not buy" in my opinion.

These are inexpensive bulk plastic magnifying glasses to outfit an entire classroom for a bug hunt or geology field trip. The glasses themselves are plastic and won't last long in a pocket; they'd probably be OK for a whole school year if cared for, but any kids you'd use these with would be so young that they won't. Therefore, their price is what matters most, and these are cheap, so they're fine.The handles come in a variety of colors so kids can choose their favorite. The magnification is 3x - not particularly impressive but enough to be noticeable and useful.They look larger in the photos than they really are - maybe they chose really small kids. The entire magnifying glass, including the handle, is maybe as long as your index finger. The pictures suggest that these could be useful for elderly reading, but that's ridiculous as an elderly person would have a hard time even seeing these, never mind picking one up and using it.For kids they do the job though.
