Wanted to monitor the power consumption of our entire house and the PZEM devices came as one of the most highly recommended approaches that require no additional calibration by the end user. Ordered two (one for each phase) and built a circuit so I could connect them into a Wemos D1 Mini running ESPHome and then feed that data into Home Assistant. They work GREAT. I compared several days of their measured power usage against that of my electricity provider and the numbers provided by the two PZEMs were within 0.06kWh accuracy from the electricity company. I couldn't believe how incredibly close the measurements were on these and was honestly expecting more of an inaccuracy tolerance versus my actual meter. My next step is to feed electricity rates into Home Assistant and then I can display realtime usage rates and further refine our home electricity usage to conserve where we can and offset heavier usage to off-peak times.

I have connected 5 of those in my electric panel, monitored by an ESP8266 and ESPEASY. I now have a clear view of my electric usage.(See ESPEASY documentation for instructions)

I love these things. I use them to keep my power company in line. I have two of them connected to an Arduino with battery backup and they monitor my main circuit breakers 24/7, recording every WH of energy my house uses and giving me daily/monthly logs. The one flaw is that these devices lose their memory of consumed energy ([K]WH) the moment they're powered off, so if you've used 20KWH of energy and the power drops, when it comes back these will show 0 KWH of consumption again. That's where the battery-backed Arduino comes in; it can remember (think EEPROM) each KWH reading per day and if the power comes back it can start appending to its remembered reading instead of starting over.I also record to MicroSD (I can store a lot of condensed readings in 4GB) and actively display charts on a 3.5" ... heck, I'll just show you a photo or two.I'm just now finishing up a second monitor that connects to 1-4 of these little PZEMs and watches them for exactly 24 hours, recording only current and showing the time-domain usage patterns for those 1-4 channels. I'll probably add yet a third, simpler, type that records daily energy consumption for one month at a time but only for one channel so I can monitor questionable circuits (like my outdoor outlets, for example, or my barn lighting).

The directions provided with the device are poor, even inaccurate (the CRC16 that's used for the protocol is specified incorrectly in the documentation, it's least significant byte first), but there is a lot of documentation available for the device PZEM-004T V3 if you look online. The Arduino library for the device has the "C" source code needed to get communications working with the gizmo. The device will not work until it's got power from both the mains (AC input) and the USB side. The USB side powers the USB. The mains powers the rest of the components.I compared to the output of a clamp ammeter and it was correct.UPDATE2: I've been measuring the power at the main panel of my house for a week or so with this device. It has been quite reliable so far. I did a handful of comparisons with the measurement from the utility company meter and it matches reasonably well. It's probably pretty accurate. One of the weird problems with this device's design (might not be an issue for most people) is it reads the voltage from the A/C line--and powers itself with the line power... So if the power goes out, so do the readings. That case has to be handled, then, in your monitoring application, or power history calculations.
