This review is for the MHW-3BOMBER (misspelled in product title) rechargeable espresso scale in the color white. The first thing that struck me is that the displays and control buttons on the top surface are essentially invisible until the unit is powered on. I decided to keep the peel-off quick reference instructions, I just stuck them to a piece of black construction paper. The unit came with a small USB-A to USB-C cable but no wall plug. The scale’s battery indicator was full when I received it so it must have been charged at the factory. I like that the unit comes with a small silicone pad to use when weighing hot materials or pouring hot water into your vessel to make coffee.I used a graduated cylinder to measure out water since tap water should weigh one gram per milliliter. 30 ml registered as 29.5 g, and 250 ml registered as 248.9 g. For my purposes, these weights are close enough to tell me that the scale is pretty accurate.Note that the ‘T’ button is not for taring the weight of a container, as one might assume. T is for the Timer function. The power button is the one to use for taring. The scale has a manual mode and two smart modes. I do not have an espresso machine so was unable to test the ‘Smart Mode – Espresso’; however, I found the instructions in the manual + peel-off quick-reference to be accurate and easy to follow for the other two modes. The only thing that tripped me up was the final display, which flashes the time, the water weight, the ratio of coffee grounds to water, and the weight of the coffee grounds. It flashes this information a couple times but if you are unfamiliar with noting the weights and ratios when making coffee it feels like information overload. I can see how it would be useful to those who want consistent results for that perfect cup of coffee.Nice compact scale, silicone pad is a nice addition, seems accurate, and saves on disposable batteries. 4 stars.

The scale has a very modern style, with a clear frosted plastic exterior over a white plastic case, and a display that lights up the area around the digits. The scale's accuracy is good, but less than the value on the bottom of the scale, with a measured margin of error of +/- 0.2g in the range of 0.7 to 260g when not connected to the USB power cord, and +/- 0.3g when the cord is plugged in. The scale's design includes a gray bottom with two large rubbery feet, one in the front and one in the back, which need to be placed on a hard, firm, and flat surface, a requirement for accurate measurements. The power switch on the side has three positions: off, on with no sound, and on with sound, and the scale has an automatic power-off feature that turns it off after 30 minutes of inactivity, but it will power back on and zero out when an object is placed on it. The scale also comes with a rubbery mat that covers a little over half of the scale's surface, which may help protect it from spills and stains. The scale has a maximum weight capacity of approximately 2000g and weighs 11oz itself. The scale's durability and resistance to stains are still to be determined, as it is too early to tell how the clear frosted plastic will hold up to spills of coffee grounds or drips of coffee or espresso. Overall, the scale seems to be a good option for those who want a modern and accurate scale with unique features, but potential buyers should be aware of the accuracy.

This scale is very compact and offers a wide weight measurement range. I even weighed a powdered dietary supplement to see how it handles very small incremental measurements and adjustments, and it handled that very well. The top portion of the plastic case is seamless, with its touch controls protected under the surface so spills cannot seep into buttons or crevices’ and potentially cause issues. However, one of the on/off switches (there are two of them) and the charging port, which is covered by a well-fitting, protective silicone flap is located on the side of the unit, so there is a possibility of liquids seeping into them should a spill happen and not be immediately noticed and cleaned up.Its shape provides solid stability, so it won’t tip, and I find it to be "functionally attractive". I like the wide, non-slip silicone strips on the bottom of it and the removable silicone protector, which must be placed on the top of it to protect the plastic housing of the scale when hot items are set on it. The unit seems to be made of durable weight material, which should handle *reasonable* use. What I don’t like: the controls *are not* intuitive and the enclosed instruction manual, while no doubt it makes sense to the product designers/testers for whom it was clearly written, states “the following steps and data are test data for reference only. The specific data may change according to the actual operation.” The manual provides illustrations and instruction specific to the steps for brewing, but it fails to reasonably explain simple things such as how to reset weight (tare) or change the unit measure from grams to ounces. While also not explained on *this* particular Amazon listing, both are addressed on another (ASIN: B0D3TJ8GHW), which is for the identical product model number shown here. (2/24/25 Update: their customer support team proactively reached out to me after reading this review and said that they're working on producing a more informative/user friendly manual and also answered a question that I had about the reason for the dual on/off switch product design.)Should you also want to know: To reset the loaded weight of your vessel/measuring device to zero (“tare”), tap once on the on/off button. To change the unit measure from grams to ounces, double tap on the timer button which is marked “T.”So, is it charged or not? Unlike my other rechargeable devices, there is no indicator by which to "at a glance" know when the device is fully charged such as colored light, so it requires babysitting it to know when to unplug it from the power source. As with any device/machine that is powered by a lithium battery, I think it's important to be able to quickly and easily see when it is fully charged, so I can immediately unplug it and lessen any potential of overheating. It has both a sliding power switch on its side and an on/off touch button on the top. Turning it off by the side switch prevents it from being accidentally turned on when you're not intending to use it for an extended time, so saves on battery life per charge. When it is expected to be intermittently used over an extended time (i.e., during the workday), leaving the side switch on and as needed utilizing the on/off touch button located on the top is most convenient.Overall, it will certainly accomplish the job for which it is intended, isn't bulky and looks nice. I could get used to what to me is 'quirkiness', but I don’t find sufficient additional functionality in it over what I've been using, so this will for me function as a backup.

Want to add stress to your espresso making? I’ve got the product for you! I would love to hear someone’s technique for using this for making espresso, maybe I was expecting too much? I wanted something to time from first drops to end…and of course the coffee extracted weight. I believe I have the process down for that but… I like to flush some water from group head before pulling a shot, so I do that before scale is setup. Process for scale is; turn on, double click power to get into smart mode, put scale under group head, put cup on scale hit “T” to tare out and “arm” timer. By this time group head has reheated the water (electrically heated) but hit flow button…it starts timing on first drops, but will never stop, UNLESS I lift cup when last drop are done. Here’s the catch, it clears out weight. Ugh… too complicated &/or I don’t have the procedure down correctly. Going back to my manual timer scale…

This is a great scale like most of the other product I have from MHW-3BOMEBR. It looks great, recognizes weight change fast which is great for espresso making. The pad is removable for easy cleaning and the display is bright an easy to read.My only real complaint it that the "T" button is for timer!? All other scales I have used the T is for tare so I can easily reset the scale between items and I instinctively go to hit it, if you do thinking it will tare and don't pay attention until it is too late all your measurements will be offHonestly I have no idea what they were thinking with that but because of it I decided to go back to my previous scale and this one will sit in the cabinet as a backup.
