Despite the ad clearly stating that this USB hub had a 5 amp power supply, the unit I received had only a 4 amp supply (20% LESS than advertised). For a 13-port hub, this is critical. I have multiple external drives plugged into this strip, and they draw down the voltage to the point where I get errors. I'm returning this because the vendor lied about the specs.I also ordered this item on March 13, and didn't receive it until April 7th despite it being an "Amazon Prime" item. Both Amazon and Monoprice should be ashamed of this performance.

My faithful Monoprice 24 port powered hub lost its power supply during a brownout. Could not find a replacement for the power supply so I replaced the hub with this one. I like that it is aluminum and USB 3. My other hub was USB 2. Seems to power up hard drives with no problem and it even has a charging port.

I like this powered USB hub - I never have to worry about having enough USB 3 ports, and where they are (which side of the computer, on the back, etc). The ports are spaced far enough apart for some larger devices, and the hub is powered so you have plenty of power for those power hungry devices. One port is for charging only and delivers extra current but is not part of the USB data chain. Blue lights for each port are great so you know when the device is properly connected. Solid build. This is not small or light, so I wouldn't call it "portable", I'd say it is more suited for a desktop situation but it gives plenty of ports for the power user.
