This is really nice because it stopped our cats from using their paws to throw water everywhere, now they just *drink* the water. It's very easy to refill the fountain, even without taking the top off. It's pretty quiet, but definitely not silent. Very difficult to spill due to the size and shape.

First let me say I'm reviewing this with thoughts on how it functions, not how my cat reacted to it - I'll explain at the end.Connecting the various parts was EASY and straight forward. The filters are included and there are lines to indicate how full or when to refill the tank. I thought this would drain batteries like crazy, but with the sensor active it only pumps when someone/something steps in front of it. It's not really loud either and sounds a bit reminiscent of a slow babbling brook. The depth of the water basin your pet drinks from is shallow, about 1/2 an inch or so. You'll need to clean this every now and then even with the filter. I didn't connect it to a wall "wart", because the battery pack/sensor was so reliable and didn't wear out despite being active (ON when sensor triggered) in a high traffic area for about a month! Four AA batteries managed to pump water far longer than I expected. Now for my disappointment and interpretation of why it failed me and my cat as individuals. My cat is about 18 years old and 100% deaf. She has been raised from 3 years old to have water in a heavy Pyrex (glass) bowl. I thought she'd love this, since she makes her water move by pawing at it before drinking... EVERY time. I don't know why she won't, but I haven't seen her drink from this at all. I had to put her old water bowl down within 12 hours due to her lack of interest. I'm certain a younger cat/dog would have been much more interested, especially if they could hear the fountain. She can see it, but may simply be too accustom to the deep water bowl to accept change. I'm looking forward to using this with my next cat once my beloved friend has passed into memory, even if that's 10 years or so down the road.

I got this to replace one that had a usb rechargeable battery built in, but motor had kicked the bucket after two years (which I thought was good for a cordless water bowl) and no longer on market so I got this one as a replacement. This has a nice size reservoir and 3 modes. Continuous if plugged in. Intermittent or active by sensor. Now I am not going to run it 24 /'7 which is why I had the last one as it was motion activated and again ran off a usb battery that would be charged like every 3 weeks or so. SO I keep rechargeable 4 AA batteries in it with 4 being charge to swap out when needs to be. Now this has a hair trigger motion sensor and does eat my rechargeable batteries like every 10 days. But I have it in a location where an outlet is handy so YMMV. But that and the fact I do not know where to get replacement filter and there is no indicator to let you know when it is time to replace. My last one the filters lasted about 10 weeks so in a month and a half I will message seller if they sell them . Both these "issues' is the reason for a missing star. It is very quiet though when it runs I barely hear it and my cat of course loves it so solid 4 stars.

I like using these pet water fountains because I have noticed my animals drinking more water. I have one on each floor of my home and intended this one for the basement because it can run on batteries. I set it up and my cats will not touch it. I have shown them the water and they back away from it. It does not make any noise either. The bottom water holder does hold quite a bit of water, but the top half where the cat should drink is very narrow and it doesn't give that flowing motion that my other two (different brands) does. I'm not sure how long of battery use one gets out of this, but you do have the option of plugging into a USB port (not included). I'm not overly confident in its abilities either as I have had to turn it on many different times. I'm not sure what the case is, but it does not constantly run. All in all I am not impressed, which puts me back on the hunt for a different type of water fountain.
