I have a Jack Russell that loves water and this does not stay on his head. I returned it.

The material definitely would protect ears from bath water. The cap unfortunately was way too big for my dog whose head is a little bigger than a Maltese.

It is made of good quality but it is too big for a shih tzu head. The issue is that it is made for dogs with pointer skulls, most other dogs. Dogs with small heads and flat skulls on top don't have much space for the cap to hold on to especially because it is pretty big. And none of that is mentioned here. I will try to see if I can make it smaller myself since not many other options exists on the internet. The quality is good, however, they feel sturdy in that they will last a while and you get 2. It's just too big for certain dogs and the circumstance of the opening isn't the issue here.
