This is a great budget friendly firestarter. One of my kids bought this to add to their camping/outdoor gear. We watched multiple YouTube videos to get an idea of how best to use this (as there are no instructions included). One video suggested that you have to scratch off the black paint/coating for these to create a spark. I was a little surprised how much force was needed to remove the coating, but it was fairly easily done. Once that was out of the way, we were able to generate good sparks. Faster isn't better when using this- the downward force is more important. Also, make sure you have a cotton ball, or something that will very easily catch fire. You're not going to catch kindling on fire with this method.All in all, a good purchase, and I would buy these again if I needed more.

I put these in our 72hour kit so we have ways to start a fire. I can tell these are good quality and I am happy with the purchase.

I keep at least 3 ways to start a fire in every pack I use and these are perfect, small, light weight. Now days I'm setting my grandchildren up so they're ready in emergency outdoors situations.

2 in one flint and steel 2 pack came quickly. Have used for camping and fire pit at home.

Have to scrape off coating in a way to collect it then it will strike. Works for our purpose for supervised grand children.
