I tried to charge Porter Cable 20V Max batteries and soon as you put battery in the light goes out and stays out and the charger just starts to get hot.

All you want out of something like this is for it to do it's job. This charges my Porter-Cable battery efficiently and signals when it is charged. I have one drill and a utility light that uses this type of battery and it can be difficult to find this type of charger as well as batteries for it, but I did and it works fine.
