I think the most important thing to know about this item is that it can not run if connected to a USB hub. It does mention this in the description of the drive, but it's very important. If you're like me, I have an M1 Mac Mini that already has every port filled up, you can't run the drive with a connecting hub. Thankfully another review mentioned which power cord type to use, and I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09W8X9VGK since the connector has an interchangeable end. With that connected, the drive has no issues running.Of course the other thing for Mac users to know is that you need to download special software to run blu-ray movies which was the primary use case for me (someone else said that VLC Player came with their computer, but mine didn't, and that software doesn't work without some serious tech knowledge and a prayer anyway).I don't have any intention of copying or writing to blu-ray discs, so I can't speak to that.Overcoming those challenges for a Mac user, the drive works perfectly!

Have been CDs ripping, CD-Rs burning enthusiast since day one as it's part of my critical audiophile goal so I am familiar with both ripping, burning hardware and software! Yamaha CRW-F1, all time favorite featuring (Advanced Audio Master Recording System) has always been my preferred ripping, burning hardware until I recently spotted this Pioneer BDR-XS07S, Silver (I was looking for 24K Gold unit) :o)Model: BDR-XS07S, MFD April 2024, firmware: 1.03Manufacturer: PIONEER (Made in China) $112 is a bargain, cheaper than TSLA stock! So, I grabbed 1 more before tariffs skyrocketed! :o)CD-ROM technical details provided by dBpoweramp CDs ripping software:CD Drive: BD-RW BDR-XS07Firmware: 1.04 (Latest firmware upgraded and available on Pioneer support website)Serial: 24/10/09Maximum Speed: 4234 KB/sec (x24)Current Speed: 4234 KB/sec (x24)Spin-down After: NeverBuffer Size: 3.91 MB (It is already 2025, buffer size should have been at least 20 MB! After countless trials and errors, some poorly replicated CDs were used for testing and this Pioneer BDR-XS07S has become my CDs ripping preference! It's highly recommended for everyone and especially if you are a critical audiophile, best to be used with dBpoweramp CD ripping software! This Pioneer BDR-XS07S is a must! I also find this CDs ripper is extremely cost effective at $112 (steak dinner for two cost $200 plus tip, corkage fee $25 per bottle, pleasantly ripped off, Uber fares)

So much of our lives is digitally based that can vanish in an instant if a hard drive gets zapped during a power surge. I've had more than a few data loss incidents in my life. I normally have multiple drives to save things like photos and videos but I wanted something a little more permanent. So I looked into getting some 128GB BDXL discs to keep things like all the content I've uploaded to Google Photos over the years. I'm using this Pioneer drive to burn the data to disc and it's been working fine so far. Seems reliable and it's a good feeling to have a few extra backups just in case.

I use it for high rez recording so far, and except for being very slow recording, the quality of the recording is perfect as of now. No real problems other than price of disks, $12 per. But you can't test for 'time' very easily, and that's the TRUE test for this machine. The quality of performance is great, and the longevity evaluation is the real purpose for these recordings--I just haven't had it long enough as yet, and you can't easily measure that other than that. So far, it passes with no problems other than recording speed. If it does what it's intended to do, I won't complain about that.

This seems to write m-disks fine. Nice unit with slot loading. Bit pricy for what it is but there aren't many alternatives.
