I use this to know where to add insulation in my house and garage. I also use it to measure the temps on the Detroit engines in my boat.

Good:I like the circle of lasers and that the measurement area does not get too large at a distance.Bad things:During the recent cold weather I though I could use this to determine how close pipes and engines were to freezing, but it yielded wildly inaccurate results. Turns out if the instrument is not in a 'room temp' environment it's readings are useless.After puzzling over it a long time I'm still not sure if I'm setting C or F when setting alarms. Anyway the upper range is technically settable, but it's defaulted at ~1400. This is very confusing because the last digit is smaller than the rest - is that part of the temp? Tenth of a degree? Not sure. But you can only adjust it by one click one degree, so if you want to make that 212, you will be there for an hour clicking buttons - not exaggerating.It says you can set emissivity - but it took me a LONG time to figure out how. All the other settings appear at the bottom, but when it's in emissivity setting mode nothing at all changes on the screen. FINALLY figured out by accident messing with other buttons when the change area is empty, the emissivity numbers at the top are changeable. But again, only on at a time. So if you want to go from .95 to .70 you have to press it 25 times. Ugh. Holding it down does not make it start auto advancing.Most of the time it seems pretty accurate, but sometimes it clearly gets lost. The first time I checked freezer temps it was jumping around from -29 - -15. I checked with a normal thermo and got -4, and then subsequently on later attempts this meter started reading similar temps.Searching the web I found no web site where I could get better information about how to run it. Or any web site of any kind about this company.

Had ordered several non contact temperature devices for my 1st Responders to monitor people during the Covid 19 Pandemic over the last 4 weeks. This unit was the last ordered and arrived first. It is very light weight, easy to use and appears accurate.

Purchased this item to use in a foundry for casting Aluminum. While I didn't expect dead accuracy at this range, I had to laugh when I realized the display doesn't even go above 3 digits! Thus it is impossible for it to show its claimed range of 1472 F! Giving the item the benefit of the doubt I went ahead and tried it on Celsius alongside a known type K thermo-couple. We heated the Aluminum up past 1300F (around 704C) and this unit never read above 300C. Tried a few reads at lower temps (60-90 F) and it seemed equally erroneous. Sometimes even reading a difference of 20 degrees on the same items. Item is already packed up and headed back to Amazon.
