I’ve been disenchanted with all the fountain pens I’ve used. Leaking, drying up. True, I don’t use one everyday, but still. The closest I’ve come is the Platinum Carbon desk pen. It was very dependable for a very long time but eventually started to leak. It was also too long to put in most pen cases to take along with me. Thought I’d give this Preppy version a go after reading about it. My only problem - and this is totally on me - the nib on the first one I ordered (medium 05) feels too thick for my regular sketching. One reviewer said it was medium but still very fine - so I tried it. Next I ordered this yellow one with a fine 03 nib. Much better, but I’m used to Pigma Micron .05 & .01. I should have (and will) ordered the extra-fine 02 nib to begin with. Thank goodness they aren’t expensive. A big thanks to the reviewer who mentioned that the ink it comes with is not waterproof. I removed the ink cartridge they came with and put in carbon black cartridges I already had. I like the colored CASES so I can see them quickly in my bag or case and know which nib is in which pen, but didn’t want the colored ink. I believe the double top that snaps over the nib is responsible for keeping it air tight and flowing. Haven’t had them very long but so far so good and I’m encouraged. Another reviewer said these were junk - must have just gotten a bad one. Now I’m going to go and order the red one with the EXTRA fine nib!Update: received the red Extra Fine 02 nib pen. Removed red ink cartridge + put in carbon ink cartridge. Love it.For those who didn’t like these pens this review won’t help - they’ve probably moved on. For those who may be considering the purchase but are new to fountain pens maybe this will help. As I said in my first review, I’ve had frustrations with past pens, however, there are few things in common with all of them.After you have installed the cartridge in these Platinum Preppy pens by giving it a good hard push with the steel ball TOWARD the nib, you are good to go. Other pens will have their own type of cartridge or way to fill with ink. BUT WAIT! (This is where I think some give up). No matter which pen you have, the ink needs to be gently coaxed into the nib by tapping the nib gently, GENTLY, and patiently on a piece of paper. The ink will come and you are good to go! Most fountain pens need to be used on a regular basis which is where I’ve gone wrong in the past. I usually paint with no under drawings. My plan is to use these for my new drawing/painting habit which is why I use waterproof ink, and keep them alive. These Preppy’s are terrific little pens!

Ich benutze und sammle seit Jahren Füllfederhalter. Ich habe 4 von diesen gekauft, da sie super zum Mitnehmen sind. Meine teueren Füllfederhalter bleiben zuhause, aber diese kommen mit im Rucksack oder in einer Tasche. Sie schreiben zuverlässig, keine Trockenstarts und man kann sie sogar zum „Eyedropper“ konvertieren (siehe YouTube Tutorials). Ich würde sie auch empfehlen für jeden, der sich für das Schreiben mit Füllfederhalter interessiert und es einfach mal ausprobieren möchte. Für ca. 5,00€ kann man nicht viel falsch machen. Klare Kaufempfehlung!
