PRODUCTPOCKETALK S2 Plus Business eSIM 5 YearREVIEWThe pocket talk is a dedicated translation device that is easy to use for most any language. It does have to be able to connect to the internet to work, so you either need to use the included FREE 5 year SIM for data or WiFi if available. So in remote locations it might not be best for you as there is no offline mode that I could find.It is very easy to use and required no training.REAL LIFE EXAMPLEI had this device with me in a recent trip to Japan where I required urgent medical care. Our tour guide only had basic English skills but was having problems conveying my medical needs to the Ambulance Team in Japan. Once I started using the device they understood me completely, and I was able to understand them. It was even more important once I got to the hospital and there was nobody with any English and I was on my own. The ER team was able to ask me questions and get my answers all through the device. Without this device, I don't think we could have completed the procedure I needed. It might be a stretch to say it saved my life, but who knows what additional delays may have done to my overall health.I will not travel out of the county without this device.RECOMMENDATIONA must have for international travel, not only for travel basics, but emergency situations.

Planning to do some travelling to Asia, I picked this up. It is a fairly sleek device that feels good in the hand, similary sized to an old iphone 5. It only has a few buttons, the power button, the volume buttons, and one button on the bottom that you will be primarily using in the same location you would find the old home button on iphones.Functionality wise it is very simple to use. As soon as you turn it on it will start connect with the included sim card and start your 2 yeears of service. You can setup wifi and a few other settings. But basically, you Select the languages you want to use, hold down the button, and keep the button held down until you finish speaking and see the sentence input. Let go and you will hear and see the translation. Another button on the bottom of screen lets you quickly switch to the other voice input (for foreign translation back to English).It is actually a weak point as it's a bit clunky going back and forth. You also need to hold the button down a few seconds for your inputs to register. There is an experimental auto setting that tries to detect the voice registers so you could automatically make inputs without having to actually switch selection of inputs. It works okay but not perfect.Lastly a mediocre camera is included. It is for taking pictures and doing translations off those pictures. Pretty useful for menus and signs. It seems to work fine, but reading off white background pictures can be hard as it is written all in white.Overall the device is useful in a few ways. You won't have to rely on your phone battery to use google translate. The battery in the Pocketalk is supposed to last for 6 hours of translation and over 100 hours of standby. It uses standards USB-C and comes with a charger so charging is easy.You also won't have to shove your valuable phone in people's faces all the time. That is to say everything this does, you can already do with your phone and google translate. In fact this requires the internet connection to work. In some minor testing of ten phrases it also gave the exact same main translation as google translate and I wonder if all this Pocketalk is doing is connecting to Google Translate itself. If that is the case it does a bit of a worse job because you can get alternate options when using google translate which you can't with Pocketalk.I think this slightly overpriced for the device. Especially considering only two years of service is included. After that you would have to buy another sim to continue using this without wifi. Also for the price, they could have included some sort of case/protection. Instead Pocketalk sells a cheap back case for $20 and a screen protector for another $20.
