I got two of these radios in 2022. Very well made. Speaker is loud enough but it’s always the option to purchase the headset and the microphone.It’s easy to program via computer with the programming cable. Works perfectly with repeaters. Use it locally and during vacation with the family. I honestly recommend it. I get them as a set of two for like $75, but now there’s a 20% deal on amazon so the price is around $60 for two. Perfect deal.

These have worked great. Battery life is several days with intermittent use. I have used them camping/traveling with family in separate cars and they are very clear. Much better than the old FRS radios. I have tried a longer antenna and it did add some range, but not sure it is worth the fumbling of the antenna hitting the sun visor or roof of the car.

I have a GMRS repeater. This radio CAN be programmed for a repeater WITHOUT any software. I have programmed this radio in duplex (repeater) for both CDC and for NO Privacy Code. The instructions are difficult to understand. Select a repeater channel 23 to 30. Press Menu. Press up to Code. Hit OK (Enter). Either press the side button below the PTT OR press the up and down arrows to select a code. If you use the side button you can choose CDC D or OFF.

As a beginner to GMRS I purchased the RB17P as a pair for my first radios. Found them quite difficult to program and very little information online about them.The program Retevis lists on their website for programming these radios is incorrect and outdated and these radios will NOT connect to any repeater out the box but will communicate with other GMRS radios easily and hear other standard GMRS channels.I had to contact Retevis through facebook to get the correct program emailed to me, after which I was able to correctly program this radio to repeaters.I was only able to hear the confirmation beep from the repeater on the stock antenna, with the occasional uniteligible voice heard. The repeater is 10 miles away from me, 20ft off the ground essentially on other side of my large city with many buildings between.I replaced the antenna with a cheap 15 inch folding antenna off amazon, after which was able to make and recieve repeater transmissions clearly from my home.After figuring out the programming it furns out to be easy to use, has a long battery life and good range in the city with repeaters.Its a darn good radio for the price if you are willing to be patient with getting the right programming and learning how to use it.
