I purchased this to use on a deep sea fishing trip. The rod I have (Berkley Big Game spinning rod) fits comfortably into the opening, which is about 1.4 inches (or 35 mm). On the trip I rented a rod because I was not confident that my spinning reel held enough line to reach the bottom. It didn't. The rental rod did not fit into the opening, so I could not use this belt on that trip.The rod holder seems well constructed and should be very durable. The belt is OK, but mine slips a bit. I put some self fusing rubber around one of the sides of the clip and that seemed to help. The belt is plenty big for my portly frame and there is a lot of room for someone with an even portlier frame.I purchased a larger spinning reel that should hold enough line to reach the bottom (about 100 meters) for my next trip. I also designed and 3D printed an adapter that I can put into the rod holder to accommodate a 2 inch rod butt, large enough for the rental rods,
