This is for the CASEMATIX Hard Shell Miniature Storage Travel Case - 36 Figurine. I have been using it since Dec 2020 and it is working great. The foam is pretty forgiving if you slice too far. Though it is not super easy to slice and dice the foam it is easy enough with a little patience. I keep my very old and those that I really love in this case for protection. It travels well and I have had no issues with it opening accidentally, even when dropped, and it has been dropped a few times. Overall it has stood up well over the last couple of years. So much so that I am purchasing another one for a friend, thus I realized I never did a review.

So, I got this specifically for metal D&D and MATAAC miniatures. Like many products of this type, it suffers from a modern "its good enough" attitude. And it is. It could be improved though and a list of pros and cons can illustrate how.First a description: It is a plastic "clam shell" case that uses sliding closures to close securely. Inside are three layers of foam. On the bottom is a thin (possibly 1/4") piece of lining foam. It is removable. On top of that is a 2" thick piece of foam that has been perforated or scored through in a 1/2x1/2" grid. This is to allow you to remove pieces of this second layer and make custom opening for whatever you will be keeping in it. On top of these layers, and inserted into the lid half of the case, is a piece of 1/2-3/4" thick egg-crate foam.Cons:The plastic is thin and therefore the lid can flex. Mine does not perfectly "seat" when closed - but it is secure. Thicker plastic and/or a tighter hinge might fix this. For miniatures (as this is being sold for), the 2" thick center layer is crazy. It would have been better if the center layer was two layers with another tin layer separating the in the middle. Most miniatures do not require a 2" deep hole. Making this two layers with a foam divider would have doubled the number of miniatures it could hold. And, by cutting the divider, one could, if need be, make spaces for a deeper compartment. For the current price (~forty USD) it is not worth it IMO - at least not for this application (miniatures). It just doesn't feel like you got what you payed for.Tearing out all the little...um tear-outs, is time consuming.Basically, for secure miniatures storage and transport, "it is good enough".Pros:It is what it says it is.The hinge is a real hinge molded into the plastic and not just a flexible piece of plastic at the back. So, it should not wear out.It is lockable with a pad lock - which may seem silly since it is plastic. However, a small lock or two could insure no accidental opening - so it is a positive feature. For miniatures, I can think of a number of things that might make it better, but for something else, say an expensive microphone and cable, it would be more ideal. Lenses should fit. Guitar pedals, etc... This actually raises it's value since cases for something are very hard to find. In other words, while I said above it is not worth the current price for miniatures, I would consider buying more of them for other things I have.I am almost positive they are stack-able.Quality is adequate - it is not going to just fall apart right off, but you won't hand it down to a kid.

I which it cost less, but the foam is easy to cut into and create slots from for my custom pieces, and the case is strong enough. It's plastic, and the grip fits into the hand well.

Ok. Here's the deal. I have a 15 year old son who paints WarHammer40K. I should be a better mother and pay attention when he talks (for long periods of time) about Blood Angels and Orcs and things. But, come on, I have papers to grade and dinner to make. So, for his 15th birthday, I thought, "Hmm...where could he go to talk to people about this hobby? Oh! The Hobby Store!"THEN I thought, "How will he transport them? All he has is cardboard boxes and I will NOT listen to hours of him complaining that his guys broke."THUS I found this amazing case. I assume it's good because when he opened it he said, "YES! Yes, Mom! This is exactly what I need!"He then went to his TeenDen in the basement for several hours as he did whatever to it to make his men fit.It works. It's great. Lots of space for lots of little guys.
