I use an older iPhone as an iPod. But the sound quality was lacking. I bought this mobile DAC and IEM and the improvement in sound quality is amazing.The DAC is even tinier than I expected, so it takes up little space. It does get warm and does increase the player’s battery life faster, but a great trade off for the sound quality

This DAC is a great buy. Its USB C interface works with my laptop and iPad, and i{Phone 14 with and adapter. Using my Beyerdynamic headphones with it is outstanding. There is plenty of power to drive these headphones and they sound great with hi-res lossless streaming. I have another much more expensive DAC and I can't tell the difference in sound quality between the two. I highly recommend this DAC.

Got this to replace a HIDIZS S3 PRO whose built-in cable was starting to fray after six months of very rough use: I often snagged the cable while doing house and yardwork with my devices in my pocket. And sometimes I'd take it cycling with the amp dangling and bouncing from the phone on a heads-up mount. (I keep the volume low and use a radar!)About audio performance: compared to the HIDIZS it's definitely got more power so more volume headroom with Hifiman HE400s, tangible improvement in terms of sound quality with the HE400s and my IEMs (can't remember!). I try not to read reviews of audio equipment to stay out of that rabbit hole but am a firm believer in amps from experience.I personally like the short, flexible USB-C cable but I do anticipate replacing it in a year or less. I think of it as a disposable wear part.I have used for a week exclusively with my Pixel 6 Pro and use the phone's controls for everything. Indiciator light seems accurate on the one time I've bothered to check. So far I've only used streaming services but will test using the included amp with lossless media from my NAS. Will update review. I wanted to add this now because I noticed the NYC Wirecutter has made it their Budget Pick despite the so-so reviews so far.
