This is, to boil it down to as simple as possible, a clamp you can have hold your smartphone.I attached it to my desk riser, and it fits wonderfully. It lets me view my phone when I recieve a text or email.The clamp itself holds it firmly to the surface and the grippy p as it that holds your phone does not squeeze it to tough
