I love that each animal totem represents specific traits and spirit. The bear reminds me of protection and strength. It is a small bear-shaped bead on a cord that rests right at the base of my neck. It adds a unique touch to my jewelry connection and I love the look and feel of it. The bead is made of a brass alloy with gold plate. It has touches of black in the creases to give it detail and definition. I love that it is still a little rough and natural looking. The cord the totem bead hangs on is a smooth black rope. It looks and feels great, but the clasp is a bit challenging to operate on your own. The cord is not very long so you cannot see what you are doing unless you are in front of a mirror. I like that it doesn't pull on my hair, but it can be difficult to get on and off.These beads can be stacked together like a totem pole and I am looking forward to adding new animal totems to my necklace. The seller mentions a totem quiz you can take that will help you identify the animal totem that is meant for you. You can add other animals because you like them or because you want to draw on their strengths. These totems would make a great gift, too! If you can get each family member to take the quiz or identify their animal totem, you could give them to your mother for a special necklace representing your family. These necklaces would also make great stocking stuffers or small gifts for men or women.

For this test, we used a female teenager to wear the brown bear pendant.[THE GOOD...]- Build: This product is very well-made. The pendant is an extremely durable and rigid piece of metal. The pendant string is made of a reinforced cloth-type of material, which did not fray or become damaged after a 5-pound pull test for 2 minutes. The clasp is secured when fastened, with no indication of falling off by accident. We assess that this pendant will last 5+ years with daily use, with appropriate care. Top marks.- Price: At the time of writing, this product is priced much lower than competitors on the market. We note that despite its price point, this product has significant attached meaning to it (native american spirit concepts) and is owned by a native american small business. Additionally, this product is fully premium in both durability and feel. For this reason, we assess this to be a tremendous value. Highest marks.- Feel: This product feels great to wear. Our testing showed that the pendant figure did not dig into the skin when pressed under a top or dress. The pendant string is also smooth and does not rub or rash against the skin. Top marks.- Aesthetics: We love the design of this particular pendant; the bear is meticulously sculpted yet unassuming; it is an exquisite complement to any style of dress, from informal to formal.[...AND THE BAD]Nothing to report!Bottom line: We absolutely love this product and its manufacturer. I feel bad giving it 4 stars, but the clasp was honestly SUCH a hassle to deal with. The necklace itself is very nice - I got the Brown Bear style, and it's not *cute* exactly but it looks quite nice. It's gold-plated and the product includes instructions for how to keep it looking great for a long time (keep it dry and away from moisturizers and oils, basically).I am NOT a big jewelry person at all, and I hate necklaces especially, but I wore this with no problem for several hours. The sort of band part and the clasps didn't pull at my neck hair like a lot of necklaces have in the past, and I found the length to be pretty much perfect - not choking me but not dangling all over the place.The clasp is REALLY difficult to use, though. It includes instructions, which are simple enough in writing (put the ends together and twist to clasp; push the ends in towards each other and twist to unclasp) but in practice it's hard to get a grip on these tiny clasps behind you and twist them in opposite directions. There's no "click" sound to indicate you've lined them up correctly to twist to clasp/unclasp them. The charm itself is lovely, but I'm very much considering changing out the clasps. I'd love to wear this necklace daily but I can't deal with struggling to get the clasps closed/open every day.Luckily it looks like it'll be very easy to do - the thread for the necklace goes through an easily accessible hole on the charm, and clasps for necklaces are in like every craft store.If I hadn't struggled for 10 minutes total to get the necklace on and then off I would've given it 5 stars.

The bear is cute and looks nice. It hangs well on the black cord. The clasp is challenging and I don’t like it personally. You line y the two end sides and twist. It’s spring loaded so sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. It says the bear is gold plated so you can’t get it wet, lotion, salt or body sprays will remove the plating.What I really like is the thought that went into the display of the bear and the leaflet inside with the meaning. It’s beautiful and inspiring and will be special to anyone who receives as a gift. Though I’m not a bear per the zodiac dates listed, it resonates with me as a mom and human.Overall it’s a nice product and the symbolism makes it personal. Great animal choices to chose from.
