I'm using this to keep a dust hose and random orbital sander up off my workbench, with an easy pulldown when I need it. The first thing I found out about it is that you need far less tension on it than you would think. And I appreciate the fact that the force required to keep the sander on the workpiece is consistent, whether you're right below this or four feet to the side at an angle of about 30 degrees. As a solution for sanding, this might be overkill, but I'd rather know that the tool and hose are secure than just hope for that with a flimsier option.

There's a difference between a retractor and a true balancer. This coil is linear, it gets more pressure the further out you pull, which means it always pulls the item backwards. A true balancer has a conical coil that applies even tension to hold a tool in place until you move it. This is fine as a retractor, but it's misleading to call it a balancer.

It holds my pneumatic tools as I am working with them, nice product.

Worked well for balancing a plug.Only complaint is spring not all that linear.
