I read the 1 review where the battery might have worked, but he damaged something else in replacing it, so I hired a well-recommended technician. and yes, he damaged the click wheel cable ribbon. Waited a month for that part to come in, and installing that, the screen went bad. I really didn't want to have to download my music and reinstall since it is all my old-school CDs and all the names will revert to track 1, etc for most of them, but it is not worth trying to replace the battery.

Bottom line, apple doesn't make it easy. Even though I'm a careful and confident repair person, there is an 80 percent chance that one would ruin the iPod while trying to remove the old battery. So, I'm not faulting the battery which was received, this is just a heads up that any gen5 iPod nano repair is a gamble at best. So, I now have a new battery, but the iPod nano is trashed because of a tiny ribbon cable that broke during the dissembling process.
