My 6 month old puppy loves mealtime, specifically the Costco puppy food. Chomp chomp gulp gulp and ... then barf barf. This has helped slow him down a bit. I do wish it was a wee bit deeper, but this has slowed him down just enough. I like that this is easy to fill and has very suctiony grips so he isn't chasing the bowl all over the kitchen. It also has washed up nicely in the dishwasher. In addition to food, I've put a little bit of the kong Cheese spray or straight up PB on top just to give him something to do -- a treat and an activity.Next, I think I need to try purchasing a puzzle bowl as he needs some more mental stimulation. This is really JUST for slowing them down a touch.

These slow my really fast feeder right down. She normally eats so fast that she has an upset stomach for an hour or so. I tried various slow feeder bowls. The plastic ones are impossible to clean. I found pretty ceramic ones that don't really slow her down. These mats are awesome. She has to think to eat and really work at finding all the bits. Also, they are dishwasher safe and no plastic. A total win.

I smear pumpkin or peanut butter on this and stick it in the freezer for about 20 minutes. It gives me 15 minutes of quiet time and my dog a nice treat.

I bought both this suction mat as well as the round slow feeder bowl with the rotating bone offered by the same company for my two 65-75 lb dogs. I was very pleased with the round slow feeder in terms of how it actually worked to slow both dogs down when they ate their kibble. This suction mat doesn't slow them down as much as the round feeder. My husky mix, who always acts like he's been starved, can get the kibble fairly quickly with this mat, though it does slow him down compared to a traditional bowl. However, I've been delighted at how well this works for American bulldog, with her shorter & wider snout. I never used the mat to feed their actual meals. I instead use it more like a treat puzzle. I start her in a down position and put the mat in front of her without any food. Then I hide 3-5 pieces of kibble here and there. She is so distracted trying to find the food that I'm able to dremel a nail or 2. I add a few more kibble and continue on until I've finished all her nails.I was shocked that she allowed me to do that because I tried numerous times before and every time the dremel just touched her nail, she would jump up and run away. I don't do nail clippers so had to resort to filing her nails down with a human nail filer, which obviously took FOREVER.But this mat has been a godsend. This has now become our nightly ritual every single night. I just dremel each nail for about 5 seconds. The whole process takes less than 5 minutes. She enjoys the "treat" time and I revel in the knowledge that I'm able to maintain her short nails so easily. The mat is also very easy to clean. It gets slobbery (she's a drooling bulldog after all). I rinse after each use and stick it in the top rack of the dishwasher, standing up folded in half, every 2 days. One of the best products I've ever bought!
