I've been having a great time roasting green coffee beans with this air roaster! I don’t drink coffee anymore—too many years of abusing my body with energy drinks—but my wife still enjoys her daily cup. While I don’t partake, I absolutely love the smell of freshly roasted coffee.I’ve been roasting a pound of green coffee beans from Dean’s Beans, 70 grams at a time. Since my wife prefers a dark roast, I’ve been experimenting with different times:17 minutes – Too light.25 minutes – Burnt, started smoking around 22:30 (set off the smoke detector).22 minutes – A little smoke, but no alarms.21:40 minutes – The latest batch, waiting for my wife’s verdict.Once she tries the last two roasts, we’ll fine-tune the timing—maybe a 21:50 batch next. I’m also looking into buying unroasted beans locally, as shipping costs were nearly as much as the beans themselves. That said, they arrived well-packaged.I’m giving this roaster 4 stars due to a faint buzzing sound that starts as soon as it’s plugged in—it’s a bit concerning, so I only keep it plugged in while roasting. A quick tip: You need to hold the power button for a few seconds to turn it on.Cleaning is a breeze—the included brush works well, and the roasting cup dismantles easily for washing. Watching the beans expand as they roast is fascinating, and so far, I haven’t had any get kicked into the chaff collection tray.Overall, a fun and engaging way to roast coffee at home!

This roaster will get the job done. It is simple to setup. However, their lack of information and instructions regarding roasting assumes that you have roasting knowledge. So you need to experiment with the timing to get your preferred roast. You like a French Roast? You will need at least 23min… How much coffee to roast? No mention, but somewhere it was suggested to do 70gm batches…

This Mophom Coffee Roaster was more of an impulse buy, and I'm not regretting it. I've been coffee-roasting at home for a few years, and so, I kinda knew what I was getting into. I usually roast Ethiopian beans with a focus on flavor rather than color. The Mophom is a hot air type of roaster, and you can not control the temperature or fan speed, but that's where the fun begins. To dial it in and find a sweet spot, I was ready to waste a few batches of Ethiopian Sidamo Guji (washed ). The first batch was 70g for 16 minutes from a cold start. 1st crack was rolling at about 7 minutes, and the end result was a full city roast with a loss of flavor and about a 19% weight loss. The second batch was 70g for 12 minutes with a 5-minute preheat. As expected, 1st crack came sooner at about 5 minutes and had much better results that were closer to a city + roast, and that's where the flavor notes started to come through. The third and final batch was the sweet spot for me. 70g for 8 minutes with a 7-minute preheat. 1st crack was rolling at about 3.5 to 4 minutes. The end results were a nice surprise. I got a nice city roast with 15.5% weight loss. After a two-day rest, I was enjoying a flavorful pour over Ethiopian. This coffee roaster is easy to use, easy to clean, and the perfect size for those who don't need to roast large amounts of coffee at one time.

After using the MOPHOM Electric Coffee Bean Roaster for about 4-5 weeks, our coffee routine has taken a delightful turn. Previously, we were using an old Bunn drip pot, but combining this roaster with our existing conical burr grinder and a French press has elevated our coffee to another level. My wife and I both agree that our coffee now tastes significantly better. At first, the smell of roasting beans seemed a bit like burning, but as I learned about the roasting process - the 'first crack', stages of roasting, and dealing with chaff - it became a comforting and familiar scent. It's potent, so it might take some adjustment if you're new to roasting. The roaster can handle 3 to 3.5 of the included plastic spoonfuls per cycle due to the bean expansion during roasting.A roasting cycle takes about 15-20 minutes plus some time to cool off. The roaster is LOUD so be prepared for that and maybe do your roasting at a time when you are not in the coffee prep room/area of your home or office. An important tip for the best flavor is to let the coffee rest for 24-72 hours post-roast to allow it to off-gas and mellow, which really does make a difference. This roaster isn't just for coffee; it's versatile enough for roasting other items like popcorn and nuts, though we've stuck to coffee. If you're looking to dive into the world of home coffee roasting, this machine is a fantastic gateway. It's made us more serious about our coffee preferences, and we're now exploring further tweaks to perfect our brew. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to enhance their coffee experience at home.

I was curious so checked this out. For context, I'm an experienced coffee roaster and typically use a much larger drum roaster. I think the real question here is whether, at this price point, you get any benefits over just using an air popcorn popper (that's basically what this is, with some design modifications) or an ad hoc home roasting approach like a pan on the stovetop or a heat gun and a metal vessel, etc. (I've done them all, over the years).I'll start with some things they've done well. First, the double-zone glass roasting chamber is nice because you can very clearly see the beans as they progress through the roasting cycle. Second, the unit surprised me in its ability to capture chaff -- this is often a challenge with small-scale ad hoc roasting setups that you might try in your kitchen....you end up with chaff everywhere. Third, it's nice that they have an adjustable timer for roasting time (but note that there's no temp control or readout) and that the roast cycle will automatically switch to a fan-only cooling cycle once the timer reaches zero. But now the challenges. First, 70g (the max they say you should try to roast in one go) is a very small amount of coffee. In my household, that's barely enough for two pour-overs (we have large coffee mugs), and what's more, this thing struggles a bit even with 70g, requiring 16 to 17 minutes to reach first crack, suggesting that it is underpowered (again, there's no temperature readout, so can't speak directly to how temp behaves over time). The biggest problem, though, is that the physical design allows beans to fly up out of the roasting chamber and get stuck up in the chaff collector (which sits above the roasting chamber). Any beans that meet that fate will be wasted, as they don't get sufficiently roasted....and I consistently found that I was losing 10-15g of beans to this chaff collector purgatory zone. So, bottom line for me ... I can't really recommend this, even though they clearly tried to be innovative in a couple of areas. If you're looking to play around with coffee roasting for the first time, I'd suggest that you look at something like 'Popper is a coffee roaster' from Sweet Maria's (do a search).
