I recently upgraded to Shaw's newest advanced modem. Specs sounded promising with 10 antennas and a sleek design. I found that even 15 ft away it would drop me down to 2.4ghz and I could manage only 20 of my 150mbps speed. I decided to go 3rd party for my wireless and since I typically love google products (own a couple pixels, multiple nexus devices, 3 google homes..) I went with this router. To say it was a major difference would be an understatement for sure. Where I used to get 20mbps I was getting 150+mbps, where I used to have 0 wifi coverage I suddenly had decent coverage. The unit is installed in my living room at the front of the house, I went to the backyard and walked until I lost the signal which was ~60ft from the back of the house (albeit only getting 2-5mbps..). The ISP router would lose signal before I stepped out my backdoor.. All in all I am very happy with this purchase. Keep an eye on the price as it varies +/-$40 day-to-day.

This was mostly an emergency purchase -- as I guess so many other routers are. However, this is the first emergency router purchase I've made where I didn't regret it at all. First and foremost: that pricetag is beyond amazing for what it offers. Most that do this much are roughly double this price. Second, it does seem to be fairly able to hold a good strong signal provided that your network adapter is good. If I had to find a nitpick, the use of only two antennas does mean that it's mostly only good for devices that are pretty close to parallel to its placement, but then having more antennas only helps if you can actually angle them to add more planes (and depending on how load is divided it may not really help anyway.) Unfortunately it's hard to test its maximum speed claims because most network adapters are USB and USB 2.0 is of course limited to a theoretical 480Mbps (and in real life a sustained transfer is less than that.) It's surprisingly hard to get PCI-E (or even PCI) adapters that aren't just horrible and they also cost quite a lot more. So the theoretical > 800Mbps this offers won't even apply to a lot of its customers. I can say that a WiFi to Ethernet transfer is quite fast though and online games seem to hold stable without any problems (I definitely saw the difference with a lower quality setup versus something better in gaming. A too high error rate causes all sorts of lag and problems.)The firmware is fairly advanced. I see a few more advanced features like VPN support missing in this versus a very rare few more advanced systems (but I do see support for two dynamic DNS services,) but overall I'm very impressed with its capabilities. They don't go as overboard as many do these days in bloat in their design, keeping it more minimal and simple (but not ugly by any means.) If I'm nitpicking I would say that it's kind of sad that there is no properly working third party support (DD-WRT, Open Tomato, etc etc) for this particular model, but this is, unfortunately, not the router's fault nor any fault in the manufacturer's designs. (It comes down to the fact that the chipsets are locked behind such proprietary designs that actually supporting them without paying for some very expensive NDAs that then won't let you distribute open source software anyway pretty much ensures that third parties must reverse engineer -- and since the chipsets change frequently even among the same companies there are just too many to reverse engineer them all.) Maybe someday though? But I wouldn't count on it. And that's why it's so very important that the built-in software can do all but the most advanced of things. It even supports IPv6 control (not only can it use IPv6 and has some useful options for it, but it lets you turn it off. For whatever reason I seem to be having a host of problems lately with all my Linux devices trying to use it and I guess my ISP doesn't support it or something causing everything to just time out until I disable it. Now I can just turn it off on the router. My last router would not do this so I had to manually disable it on each such device.)Simply put, it does what it does much better than it should for its pricerange. There aren't many that will at all compete at this pricerange. You can do more if you go to higher priceranges, but not by much (as I said, adding more antennas doesn't necessarily help -- it depends on a number of factors -- and higher speeds only help at all if the hardware connecting can even use them and few devices will benefit from more.)

First, the Google, On Hub does everything it says and possibly more. I was skeptical and hesitant to purchase this router because I consider myself a bit more advanced than your average residential user. I am a CCNA and like to manipulate my router settings to make it more difficult for intruders to gain access, as well as run several programs that require port forwarding and NAT/PAT settings to be set in other than normal fashions. The description didn't get into as many details so I was weary that I was paying a lot for a router with less functionality than the cheaper, (or other brands to be fair, as the Linksys router I replaced was about the same price.) Upon downloading the On App and looking through the settings, I was a bit disappointed to find I don't have as much control over things as I would have liked... A few calls to customer service, (which is just amazing!,) and I found that despite not being noted in the description, and not being very clear in the application settings, the Google On Hub does in fact support and have the capability to do many of the things I want to do. The only complaint I have, (to date,) is the inability to create your own LAN IP Addressing scheme.Second, I was shocked to see how fast and professional the On Hub support team is. Messing around in the advanced settings, trying to configure some things and having a bit of difficulty because of the new platform, (On app as opposed to the Router settings screen on most residential routers,) led to a bit of frustration at first. I prefer to figure things out on my own and hate having to contact customer support, so i messed around for a bit searching for the areas that provided the settings I was looking for with not too much luck. The rest of the platform and the router itself seemed as capable and more reliable than any other I have had so I was reluctant to send it back and insistant on finding the settings I was looking for. After a day of fiddling with the app and feeling like what I was looking for may not be available, i decided to try the help screen. Well, am I glad I did!! Putting in a help ticket and requesting a call back gets you a call within 1 minute! That's the first shocker. The rep on the call had read the ticket, understood my issue and guided me through the app, (while on the phone,) to the exact place I needed to be. I put in a few tickets to customer support over the next couple days regarding setting up static IP's, port forwarding, changing IP addresses and other things. I am simply amazed at how well the support team handles requests and how painlessly easy it is to get support. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a new wireless router based on their support alone! Finally, the reason I made the switch is because of wireless reliability issues I was having in my home. I don't think I have a large home by any means. It's a 2000 square foot, two story town home. I have lived in a home that was 4500 sq/ft and hadn't experienced any issues. That was leading me to believe that the new router I purchased for my home just wasn't living up to the job. I have many devices including an echo, 5 Sonos components, some GE Link bulbs and many Smartthings outlets, switches sensors and motion detectors. I thought perhaps that the complexity of my network was causing the issues. I would lose connectivity with my Smarthings hub from time to time and Sonos had been acting up for a little while as well. It seemed like anytime another person showed up, and added their phone to my wifi, i would get more connectivity issues. After connecting and configuring the on hub, I have had no issues, what-so-ever with any device on my network. The scheme has remained the same despite not needing some of the additional components I had set up for my previous router. (I had attached an additional router on the second floor of the home to boost my wireless range and take some stress off the main router.)In Conclusion, the On Hub has replaced two routers and provides a strong, uninterrupted signal throughout my home, with all components. It's fairly simple to install, it looks good and is supported by some very professional and knowledgeable staff. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a wireless solution for small business or home.Pros: Looks great, reliable, fairly user friendly interface and SUPERIOR customer service.Cons: Not yet able to manage LAN IP Settings as with other residential routers. Which, BTW, after contacting support regarding this and a few other matters, they did advise they've been asked about by many people calling in for help and have put in a request letting the powers that be know, people are interested in this capability. They made no promises, but did mention a firmware update in the future may add that functionality.

I got his router for 2289/- during amazon sales.. At first i was using ASUS N150 router which served me well for 4 yrs but i desperately needed an upgrade within a budget of 2000-2500 price range..this router is really excellent.. At first i was hesitant to buy TP-Link router since some reviews have been not good but my friend who is using one suggested me to buy it and went for it..Here are the conclusions i made off of it after few days use::i) the material used is very good.ii) It has a sleek glossy design which will really make your set-up look good.iii) The connection setup is very easily compared to other brands. Just few clicks and done.[Note: In case you are using PPPOE connection i.e uneed username and password to login to ur internet connection then select "static IP" option when asked for (which is the case for me) and justenter your ip details and u r done.) Absolutely no hassle.iv) The connection is very good despite some negative and false reviews dont listen to them.. I have a house of 1500 sq. ft. and it easily covers my entire house and my lawn and garden too..v) the 2.4 GHz connection is very good and stays full spectrum for a decently long range..vi) The 5.0 Ghz is a piece of art.. it is very quick to connect and the speed reliability is great. But the range of 5.0 Ghz is slighly less than 2.4 ghz connection.. although one can except nothing more at this price range.I am using my PC(connected with Ethernet), XBOX ONE(connected with ethernet), PS4 (wifi),XBOX 360(wifi),PS3(wifi), my smartphone(wifi) and my laptop(wifi) with this router and i am pretty amazed by the performance this router gives..The resetting/rebooting of router takes around 10-20 secs and then its ON..!! which is very quick for any router at this price range..I ran it 96 hrs straight after buying and voila..!!! there isn't any type of overheating or lag or disconnecting issues which i have faced with my previous routers...If anyone looking for a router upgrade at this price range then please i urge you to buy this router with confidence.. you will not be disappointed...!!!!!!
