Hooked up the Deco M9 two pack about a week ago and, so far, it has worked flawlessly. Set up with the Deco app is very easy and the app interface is user friendly. I initially set up the M9 two pack and it provided good coverage through out our 3 level 3000 sqft home, with no dead zones, but not full signals upstairs, in the basement and in the garage, but everything still functioned well. The M9 units are located at opposite ends of the main floor. I have since added 3 Deco M5 units as additional satellite nodes, upstairs, in the basement and in the garage, and now signals are full throughout the house, and performance has been flawless. On my old system, which was a router and a number of satellite access points, things were good but I was experiencing an issue with some slow transmission speeds, persistent troubles with smart switches and plugs losing connectivity, and a number of SSID names to manage. So far, that seems to have disappeared with the Deco mesh system, and it is really nice to have only one SSID to deal with. I also like that the "Guest Network" is now broadcast equally throughout the house.I am still experimenting with the "Smart Hub" feature of the Deco M9 system. I haven't found a great advantage to this over just managing my smart devices through their various apps, but time will tell. Not that I seem to need it, but I also want to experiment with using a LAN connection between some of the nodes, and the possibility of adding an access point using an old third party router (or if needed a Deco node) in our pool area. This area is removed from the house and is traditionally hard to service. In the past I have used a network extender that plugged in outside, which was ok but not great. The only issue that I came across was that my Ecobee3 thermostat would not connect to the Deco wifi. Apparently the Ecobee devices are not compatible with a mesh system. I just connected it to an SSID that I created on my IP router to get it back on line. The only concern here is: 1. Another network SSID shows up 2. The thermostat is not within my home network and thus cannot be controlled using my Google Home, so I just use the Ecobee app. I believe that Nest thermostats are compatible with this mesh system.Overall, very happy with the Deco system.

I bought two-pack Deco M9 Plus. I put one Deco on the first floor and second Deco on the second floor of my house. Before, I had so-so 2.4GHz signal at the far corners of my house, but now there is strong 5GHz signal everywhere in my house! I see dramatic 4-5 fold download speed improvement over previous 2.4GHz network I had with with Rogers Hitron cable modem. So good, that I disabled 2.4 GHz WiFi network in my house, leaving just 5GHz.TP-Link Deco is for those who do not want and do not need to tinker with networking settings. An app to configure Deco units has only basic necessary stuff. If simple and "just works" is what you are looking for, that WiFi mesh system is for you.If all you need is just WiFi mesh add-on to your existent home network, configure Deco in AP (Access Point) mode and disable WiFi on modem/router from your ISP. Deco will provide WiFi, ISP modem/router will continue to manage your network. That's what I've done at my home and very pleased with the result.Hints and tips:1. When looking for a place to put second Deco device, make sure 5 GHz signal from the main unit is strong (Good, Excellent) there. I used WiFi scanner on smartphone to check WiFi signal levels, WiFiman from Ubiquiti, but there are many other similar apps.Walk to the place where you want to put second Deco M9 Plus, turn off and on WiFi on smartphone to get fresh signal readings, start WiFi scanner app and see what quality of 5GHz it reports from Main Deco. If quality is low, you better find another place.Deco M9 Plus has 5GHz backhaul and unless wired with ethernet cable, will benefit greatly from strong 5GHz connection to Main Deco unit.2. If you need to mount M9 Plus on a wall, I recommend Wall Mount Holder by Koroaro, also on Amazon. Check review from user SH who describes a trick of properly mounting M9 Plus.3. You might find that with strong 5GHz WiFi network you don't need older and slower 2.4GHz. The best is to disable 2.4GHz so that devices don't occasionally switch to it, you can do that in Deco app, but you might find you have old devices that don't support 5GHz. In my case it happened to be ecobee3 smart thermostat. To make sure my other devices always stay on 5GHz network and never fallback to much slower 2.4GHz, I enabled Guest network in Deco app, password protected it, and connected ecobee3 to Guest network. I now have 5GHz Main network used exclusively for high bandwidth newer devices, and Guest network exclusively for low bandwidth older devices. If you have really old device that can't handle dual WiFi mode, you can turn off 5GHz on Guest network and leave it strictly 2.4GHz.

Setup was extremely straightforward. Coverage is great. The two of these gave me excellent wifi signal everywhere in and around my house; you can mix and match Deco types so I was thinking about picking up an M5 to extend it but that was not necessary. The smartphone app does a good job showing status and letting you configure your network. Two shortcomings: first, there is a desktop web interface for the router, but it only shows basic status and cannot be used for full config or control (you must use the app for anything serious); second, they have USB ports but they don't do anything except provide power. I was hoping to plug an HD in as NAS as that doesn't work at all. But the routers work great, with top notch coverage.

WiFi mesh changed my entire wireless networking experience. We live in an older home built in the 70s (i.e., faraday cage). We've tried a host of router options over the past few years, with Apple's Airport being the best at providing WiFi coverage, albeit lacking coverage on a second floor at the opposite end of the house. Coverage outside was good only for a few feet from the house as well. We tried powerline extenders and even have some devices connected via Cat 6, too, and while they added a little umph, it just didn't result in remarkable change.Enter the TP-Link Deco M9 Plus. The app made this a simple, truly step-by-step setup. The only problem I had was that there were no instructions regarding the password parameters when setting up an account. After a few guesses, I got beyond it and into setup. Each step matched my action exactly. I'd estimate about 10 minutes total setup, including unpacking and the password gaffes. Add 4 minutes more for a firmware update and all was good. Scratch that. All was great. My internet download speed skyrocketed. While the Airport could pull 150 mbps+ wireless within 20 feet, that number dropped throughout the house, with some rooms struggling to pull 15-20 mbps, despite pings under 18 ms. With the Deco M9 Plus, I average 160-165 mbps across the entire house. I'm hitting 180-190 mbps standing next to the primary unit next to the modem (and this unit is still not placed in the ideal location due to my modem's location). And get this, outside my house, on the deck, I've pulled down 239 mbps. Heck, I'm hitting 120+ mbps at the end of the driveway. I'm running a simple Netgear 300 mbps modem (no bells and whistles) with Comcast service. I can now run multiple streaming services, FaceTime, and conduct internet browsing concurrently without lag or impact.I am only running the two units this mesh system includes. I almost bought an additional M5 so I could ensure further coverage (you can add multiple components from different TP models to the M9 and link them via the app), but there's no need in this ~2600 sq ft home.Sure it's only been a week (barely), and yes, I rarely write reviews (I don't write reviews). I spent a lot of time looking at PCMag, CNET, etc reviews and went back and forth between Google's mesh, Orbi, and other products. I went to a number of brick and mortar stores to talk WiFi shop with salesfolk (Orbi came highly recommended), but I'm really happy with the immediate change I'm experiencing with TP-Link.After the improvement I experienced moving from a Motorola WiFi router to the Apple Airport, I figured I'd just stick with Apple, but it doesn't compare any longer. Sure, the Deco M9 Plus is pricey, but I really feel like this is a good investment and the effects justify the expenditure. I'm interested to see where I'm at in a year with this, but if current performance is any indicator, then I should remain satisfied.

I started my mesh network with the Deco M5s and I chose them over other mesh products because they supported WIRED back channel connectivity (something Orbi, Google, etc. did NOT support at that time). Sine my home is wired for Cat5e it would been silly not to have utilized it.FYI the Deco M9s tri-channel are now even better suited to wireless placements than the M5s were before. The M9s also add a smart home hub (but for me it does support enough devices yet to justify replacing my Samsung "SmartThings" hub).My TPLink mesh network easily supports mixed M5s and M9s, mixed wireless and wired back channels, and all work flawlessly together. There are NO remaining dead zones at my home and my numerous smart devices all stay connected. My Ring.com cameras work better with this system compared to the other mesh network gear I have tired (most of which were indeed problematic with smart cameras like Ring). My roaming devices (e.g. iPhones, tablets, etc.) all work better with my M5/M9 mesh setup compared to the results I see when I'm visiting family and friends (who have other mesh products) where the cutover between those units can hang quite noticeably.I especially like the included virus software, it has been a life-saver to have protection at the network level which has gone a long way to protect both the kids and less 'tech-y' adults in the home from... well let's just say themselves.I also love the the QoS, usage summaries, attack summaries, and user profiles groups. The APP is easy to use, it supports all the key features needed and I find that I like it a lot. You will have to be ok with the APP as there is no HTTP interface to this system. There is also a small lag when the APP starts but I do not personally find that to be an issue. All the mesh systems I have seen have many pros and cons as MESH is still an evolving space. Most of my tech buddies have eyed up other systems like Google, Orbi etc. (at greater cost) chasing the fastest aggregate speed specs they can find. All this despite the fact their devices won't even get to use it as their cable modem connections are slower (aka none of they have Gbit service with their internet providers yet).In summary, TPLink is truly a hidden GEM in the MESH system arena. It just works! Additionally, it supports what is important to most the households holds (that I I know of) e.g. numerous devices, roaming that really roams, wired or wireless, 4K streaming. Add in it’s very affordably cost which reduces any fear about buying enough units to eliminate all dead spots in any sized house. Quite frankly I have it found to be the best value in mess by far!
