I wrote a LONG review for this lens in the FX mount, and included comparison photos, taken using a tripod with the same subjects, comparing this TTArtison against the original camera manufacturer's lenses, both their normal and red badge series. My review did not meet Amazon community guidelines, possibly because I mentioned another manufacturer's name? (There no way of knowing what the reason was...)Basically, other than having trouble auto focussing in dim light (and especially dim light at closer distances) this lens performs surprisingly well. Color and contrast were on par with the OEM lenses (until you get to their medium format lenses, which just smoked everything else), and "sharpness" was adequate wide open and fine when stoped down a bit. Zero vignetting, and I couldn't detect distortion, (although this is a focal length where those shouldn't be problems). Even the bokeh was quite pleasing.Mechanically, everything works, and works smoothly. The finish is very nice, and it looks right at home on my XPro2. I especially like the hood design, and the USB C updating via the rear lens cap is very clever.I'm giving this 5 stars taking its cost into consideration. If I were to rate it on absolute terms against the OEM glass, it would be a star below them, (and most of them wouldn't be 5 star either, although some absolutely are).

The TArtisan 56mm F1.8 E-Mount Prime Lens is a great portrait photography lens and can be used for video as well. This lens offers good sharpness, bokeh, and affordability, making it a great option for beginners or those who want to take portraits without spending a fortune. The lens feels like it is built well and feels solid in hand. It’s compact and lightweight, which makes it easy to carry around and shoot street photography for extended periods without feeling fatigued on a small camera body. The image quality is excellent, especially considering the price. The lens is sharp in the center F 2.8 is sharper vs at f/1.8. The lens produces pleasing out-of-focus areas with a smooth, creamy ball shaped bokeh, which I love. The autofocus is quick and surprisingly accurate for a lens in this price range. When burst shooting, I'd say 95/100 are in focus. It works well in both well-lit and low-light situations, with its 1.8 aperture locking onto subjects without much hunting for photography. The autofocus does make a clicky digital sound when working. Its loud enough to be heard in your recordings if you're using a microphone on top of your camera, so I switch to manual when using this for the best results shooting video. There is some focus breathing, but it is not too shabby when it locks on focus. The f/1.8 aperture is great for low-light shooting and allows for excellent subject isolation with a shallow depth of field.Cons:The center sharpness is excellent, and the corners are slightly softer, especially at wider apertures. This isn’t a major issue for portrait photography, but it’s something to keep in mind for other types of shots...The build quality is good overall, and the lens does have a fair amount of plastic in its construction, which might not appeal to everyone...It doesn’t feel cheap, but it’s not as robust as some higher-end lenses. But for its price point, its really not mentionable. Another con is the focus motor being a little noisy for video without a mic attached to the camera. If you''re shooting professional video, i'd have a mic, which would make this a non issue. In conclusion, the TArtisan 56mm F1.8 is an excellent choice for APS-C mirrorless users looking for an affordable, high-performing portrait lens. The focal length conversion to a full frame lens is 85mm, which is a go-to for portraits. Its strengths far outweigh its minor drawbacks, and it delivers impressive results for photographers and videographers. If you’re in the market for a budget-friendly prime lens that can elevate your portrait photography, this one is definitely worth considering.

So far I am liking this lens on my Nikon Z30. The only thing I do not like is the lens hood, you cannot install it with a filter on and no dust cap while it is on. To me the hood it is just about useless.

I bought this lens for my Sony ZV E10 camera and it is worth every penny. The image quality is good, there is not too much chromatic aberration to worry about and it's really sharp. My only complaint (that I hope TTArtisan may improve it with new software updates) is that I can't control the focus through my DJI S3 Mini Ronin's dial. I can control the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture, but not the focus. But in sum, if you are looking for a cheap portrait lens, it is a good option.
