Way back when I was sent home because of Covid19 (don't start arguing about whether Covid19 exists or not as it doesn't change the story, I was sent home). After about 3 months my employers told me that they were sending a computer so that I could work from home. A laptop was being sent according to my boss.Imagine my horror when a Surface Pro 5 arrived. For those who don't know what that is, it's basically a tablet that has a squishy keyboard attachment. This is not a device that you can use on your lap. I already have a laptop but my work requires a level of security slightly above your average requirement so I'm stuck with the Surface Pro 5, a device that has been superceded by the Surface Pro 6 and the Surface Pro 7.Now I'm a smart man, don't be offended by that, I am and I can prove it. It took me a few days to beg, borrow and steal a desk, chair, keyboard, huge monitor and tangled mass of cables, thus turning the crappy Surface Pro into a desktop computer.I had to put the phone and router on the desk as it was the only place that they could go. I considered getting a mouse (remember them?) but was given a "scratch pad" and I was ready to role play working from home, Zoom meetings wearing just a shirt for example (try it for yourself before you judge me). After a while I hooked up my laptop to the TV next to my desk and my hobby started to take up space in my workplace (I make compilation videos for a popular website with the word "Hub" in it's name). So I'm running out of space and it dawned on me that I should put the Surface Pro behind my monitor to create more space. My monitor is as far back as it can go and there's a two inch gap between the desk and the wall. The Surface Pro fell off the desk, it's a terrible thing to use, it won't stand vertically on it's own and I'm angry with gravity and I turn round to tell my girlfriend exactly that. She's sitting on the sofa with her drawing table in front of her, she's got an art degree and she was doing an illustration for a friend of ours we hadn't seen since before lockdown as the club is closed. It's a private club for like minded people and she was illustrating a scene from when we first met at the private club in town. I remember it well, I took the photo she was rendering on paper and that was the first time I saw her, entering a group of men. Anyway, she was doing a picture for each of our friends who were with her that night, she's very good, most people can't get limbs to overlap but her drawings are always perfect. This was the third drawing she'd done and the answer to my desktop problems was right there all along. Attached to the bookcase behind her was an angel poised lamp, a modern strip light, not the traditional one with a bulb inside. She used it to illuminate the paper from above. She has a different one with a magnifying glass set in a ring of leds for the detailed bits. The simple solution presented itself and after a few minutes online I found this tablet holder. It's the same versatile principle as the lamp but has lockable joints to give stability to the Surface Pro which is a bit heavier than a lamp but it's very stable and I've managed to get the Pro out of the way, thus releasing a bit of space on my desk.I may buy a second one with a camera attachment to go in the bedroom as I could position it on one of these holders very easily. Congratulations to the person who thought of making this, I can think of many more ways to use it.

This thing is a god send, since it swivels on the base, I can get out of my chair by simply swinging it to the side(for such a SIMPLE function, I had to buy a WHOLE new clamp mount to do this, but it was a function I needed desperately once I figured it out). However, I have not used this product as an overhead bed reader. So I don't know how "well" it would do in such a weird position.Previously, I bought two goosenecks before, the first one was too weak, so when I poke the the screen on my phone, the entire thing would jiggle likea pendulum with no end to the swinging... So I bought my SECOND gooseneck, it was very strong, doesn't wobble, alas, I use the thing attached to my chair like those airplane inflight seat entertainment TVs, you know, the ones you can pull out and swing infront of your chair.... The gooseneck was too stiff, so if I wanted to get out of my chair, I had to take the entire thing off the side...I used it with a normal phone, and I used it with mini netbook, the netbook was 500 grams in weight, the clamp(or the claw) was firm enough to hold the netbook in place, and when i poke the screen, the entire assembly stays very stiff, very satisfied. As a bonus, the entire stand is super lightweight, as in the materials built in it is very light. It's a good thing for my situation. And a bad thing if you use very very heavy tablets.IMO, goosenecks are good only if you want a tablet/phone mounted in a position where, 1. it doesn't directly come in path with the human leaving the computer desk or whatever medium the human was resting in. 2. You don't frequently adjust the device in said position. If you want it to hang over your bed, or your chair, it is highly possible you will have to 1. get out of the bed and hit the tablet directly above your head, or 2. you can't get out of your chair because it's right infront of you blocking your path. You would want this product instead.
