Let's be very clear what this is not: a desktop replacement, a GoPro replacement, or even a low-powered internet machine. If you want those things, go get a Pi 4, any other action camera, or a Chromebook/other Linux machine. This kit is a $15 Pi Zero W with $45 of accessories and a lot of work done for you, and it's meant to make your embedded projects easier. That's pretty much it, plus typing lots of words. It barely runs Pi OS, though, so it's a wonder it can do these things at all.So let's get into what this has to offer: a dedicated camera mount, clear box designed to hold the Pi board, a 64GB Samsung SD card preloaded with Pi OS, a micro-HDMI to HDMI cable, a micro USB hub, a ribbon cable for connecting a camera, two multi-pin connectors for interfacing with other components, and of course a power cable. I believe that collection of things is easily worth $45, so you're really getting a steal of a deal. The OS that is preloaded on the SD card comes with several productivity tools, like LibreOffice, and they do run, so you can technically type a novel on here. If you want to upload that novel anywhere, though, good luck getting Chromium to load any publishing websites. It takes ages to load anything except for the Pi Foundation's website. This is just due to the cheapness of the components, really, which is kind of the point. It's meant to be just enough to complete your tasks, usually some sort of task it needs to perform as an embedded component, but versatile enough to do other things as well. To me, this means turning it into a camera on a robot, or a sensor to monitor my doors, but having the option of just creating a novel-writing machine where you're forced to forego possible distractions because the machine itself just can't handle them. I think that's a good thing. Plenty of people have come up with tons of other uses for the Zero W, so go find their projects if you want more ideas. The components of this kit feel quite nice, like they're not cheap, just inexpensive. That's kind of the philosophy behind the whole Pi project, too, so it fits. Vilros is one of the Pi Foundation's authorized Pi resellers, so you're getting this from a company that understands the vision enough to be contracted and trusted by its originators. I say that because it's worth noting that it's not some kooky company out there trying to make a buck by selling shoddy stuff. My one and only complaint, and the reason it's 4 stars instead of 5, is that the HDMI connection is faulty, and so I get spotty sound. It sounds like it's playing through the back of an oscillating fan. I might be able to finagle this some, but it does at least bear consideration that this is a possibility.Overall, this is a solid little kit, especially if you have a project that requires a camera that can work with this. I can recommend it if you're already looking for a Pi Zero W to perform a task, and you don't want to worry about component compatibility.

Let me preface this but saying that I have a raspberry pi 3 running a Plex server and a pi 4 running Retropie games, so I'm not new too these mini computers. I'll be honest and thought the Pi Zero could do more but it is less powered that the 3 and 4 for sure. I ended up making a very packable Kodi playset that lets me play my movie library on a portable screen in the back of my van to entertain the kids. So far it works perfectly and is extremely compact and light, which is the reason I wanted to try one off these little boards out. It comes with just about everything you need to get started on a general project. Of course if you want too too some camera project you would need to purchase a Pi can separately but the kit dropped come with a camera mount and Robin for hook up. For my project, it came with everything needed. Something's to keep in mind is that there's only one micro USB input, one micro USB power input and one mini HDMI input. The kit does hava a switched per cable and a multi-port fort adding more USB items as needed. It is a great stater set.

Purchased this kit to make a pi-hole since my eero sub ran out (and I’m not paying double the price to renew). This was the best alternative I could find. This kit includes the recommended/required equipment to make that happen as well as extras. There is a connector for a camera and screws, however there is no actual camera included with this. Not sure if it was supposed to or not but wanted to point that out. My only true gripe is that the board snaps into the housing with no screws to hold it in place. If you plug/unplug from the board too many times it will come out from the bottom of the case and not stay set. I wish the camera screws it came with could have been used as board mounts of the case instead. Other than that great product, there is a lot here.

There's a saying about small packages and big things, and the Raspberry Pi Zero W, a compact, potent computer, is a case in point. What adds further to the intrigue is Vilros' Starter Kit which practically surrounds this pint-sized dynamo with a plethora of impressive accessories.Securing a Raspberry Pi Zero W can be a tall order, owing to its demand. So, it was quite a delight to not only find the Raspberry Pi Zero W but also to discover the substantial array of additional components that Vilros provides in this kit.Vilros doesn't merely give you a Raspberry Pi Zero W; it's a full-blown suite of useful add-ons. We're talking about a 2.5A power supply with an inline switch, a multifunctional case tailored for Pi Zero, a preloaded Samsung EVO+ 64GB Micro SD card, a Micro USB to 3x USB and Ethernet breakout, a standard HDMI-Mini HDMI cable of 5ft, a 40 Pin Pin header, a heatsink with thermal tape, a camera module adapter cable, a quickstart guide, and a handy neoprene storage bag. Phew! While the Raspberry Pi Zero W is the star of the show, the wealth of extras that Vilros offers significantly enhances the overall experience. It's like getting a compact car and discovering it comes with all the optional extras as standard. And being a Vilros product, there's the reassurance of knowing that you're dealing with an authorized Raspberry Pi Foundation Reseller, which brings the peace of mind of full support for all purchases. In conclusion, it's a small kit, but it sure does pack a punch!
