One of my hobbies is amateur (ham) radio and our local group helps provide radio communications to community events. I've always used a handheld speaker mic, but a buddy had a similar earpiece that worked well to help isolate outside sound and improve communications, so I decided to give this setup a try at an adventure race this weekend. It actually worked surprisingly well for me!I DID replace the eartip with a silicone earmold that I found exerted a bit less pressure on my ear canal and made wearing the earpiece a bit more comfortable. However, the rest of the setup was completely stock.I'm not a fan of VOX so didn't try that mode, but the PTT worked well, and the mic had decent audio quality reported from other users on frequency. I'm not sure how durable the PTT is, but suppose I can probably replace the switch inside if I need to someday.I like that this uses the 'Kenwood' speaker/mic standard that's become so common on most of the Chinese radios (amongst others). It means I can easily use this setup with many different radios without worrying about adapters between them all.Overall, this is a great addition to my radio kit for certain applications.

As an amateur radio operator I am often involved in public events where this is a high level of ambient noise and a good quality earpiece is needed as well as a microphone that is sensitive enough to pickup my voice over the background noise. I used this recently for an event and it performed better than my stock Kenwood speaker/mic with earpiece when used with my Kenwood TH-D74A handheld. The fit of the connector was perfect. I'm very impressed.
