Originally learned of X-Keys through their RailDriver rail simulator controller, which I own and enjoy. My latest purchase of the XKE-40 is actually my second one -- I am a mobile DJ and use these to control my music playout software, PlayIt Live. It's nice to be able to play, stop or crossfade music without using my mouse or keyboard. I used to have keyboard shortcuts set up for many of these functions, but Windows eventually took over most of the "F keys" for other things, and I didn't want to resort to funky shortcuts like Ctrl+ whatever or Alt+ whatever. The XKE-40 suits the purpose well. I actually would have preferred the rackmount XKE-16, which has only 16 buttons, as that's all I need -- but X-Keys stopped making these awhile back and said they haven't had enough demand to do another production run. Overall, it helps make my setups feel more like radio station studios, where each music channel fader has a button underneath it to "fire" whatever audio is loaded on that particular channel.
