One of the first things that set me back a bit was the current draw. It draws about 10 amps on a 12 volt supply. It worked well when I ran it with a small 12 v battery. I tested it with two and three batteries in series and it worked well with 2. Three batteries seemed to be too much but caused no damage. The provided flyback has a diode in the output and will initiate an arc from about 1/2 to 1 inch in length. Although the arc is very quiet is is bright and heats up a 14awg wire to glowing temperature pretty quickly.
