I really wanted these to work. They seemed like a great price for all-metal parts. Ultimately, though, they’re all machined slightly wrong. It took me a while to figure out exactly the problem, but I’m happy to share specifics now that I have them. When my initial buttons failed on two different machines (one an actual Badge-A-Minit and one an off-brand) I started swapping parts to see if I could isolate the problem. I compared with parts that I knew would work. I used the front and Mylar from parts I knew worked and tried only the backs from this set: failure. I tried the backs and Mylar from parts that worked and tried only the fronts from this set: another failure. While the mylars from this set would sometimes work with backs and fronts that I also knew worked, the results weren’t great. This caused me to do some digging. The problem was that none of the parts were quite exactly what they needed to be. The mylars are actually double thickness of OEM B-A-M parts. The fronts are just barely (maybe a 1/32nd inch) too big, causing machines to crimp them in before they’re fully seated on the backs. And the sides of the backs are too straight, which means that when the fronts are crimped down onto them they can’t actually reach “behind” the edge and get a good grip to seal the button.Add to that the fact that the packing wasn’t great. I got enough fronts and backs, but only 200 mylars, not 500 like I ordered. The whole thing was a regrettable fiasco.
