I struggled with this one quite a bit. I tried on three separate trips to the chargers to get it to work, with no luck. This morning, I thought, I'll give it one last shot before I give up and chuck it, but wouldn't you know, it finally worked. So, I don't know why it didn't the first few times I tried--and I was literally parking, trying it several times to no avail, re-parking at another charger, trying again several times, etc. etc. and it didn't work. Today, first try and it worked. Can't explain it as the charger's fault but I also can't isolate where the issue was. It did work today and without any issues.Because it is an adapter, there is always a little struggle with making sure it is clicked on securely. Taking it off is also sometimes a challenge. I don't think it's the adapter's fault, but just the fact that it's an attachment that has to sit between the vehicle and the plug. Make sure you're pulling both out at the same time or only the plug comes out and the adapter stays in and you have to wrestle with clicking the whole thing back on to try to pull the whole thing back out together. I wish that piece were easier to manage, but again, it's a design flaw on any attachment, not just this brand. The packaging is nice. The adapter is well-packed in foam. Tesla sells this adapter for something insane like $400 so this price point is more than fair. It is a plastic housing but seems strong enough. The contacts seem to match and fit the plug just fine and it's as easy to attach as can be expected. Would probably buy again, because it is a need for a Tesla owner...at least in my vicinity.

This adapter works well on our Model 3, I was able to hit about 147kW tops on an Electrify America station, so not bad at all for an adapter. Obviously, its ridiculous to expect Supercharger speeds, but with as readily available a J1772 station is, this is great in a pinch. It seems to click in securely the first time, which is not something I can say for many other adapters, so that is a great sign that quality and research were a priority in the manufacturing of this adapter. It is of average size and the same overall finish as others as well. The reason I deducted a star is due to after the initial use, there was a bit of a plasticy, burning smell to the adapter after use and it was extremely warm to the touch. Not to wear I couldn't handle it, but significantly hotter than any adapter I've ever used. It didn't seem to be in excess of 125 degrees or so, but it certainly was very warm to the touch. That said, I don't think it should be heating up like that and have deducted a start due to that issue. Otherwise, it is easy to use and worked well to properly charge my vehicle quickly.

I assume the weight is due to high grade components, as this has to move some voltage. I got this for a just worst case situation. As you probably know the Tesla chargers are everywhere, but situations can miss up best laid plans. I was driving from California to Reno one time and a wind change resulting in a wild fire closing down my highway. Not enough juice to make it back to the last charger I used, but lucky enough to find a slow one at a hotel, where it got me enough charge after 4 hours to get to the next supercharger. Keeping this plug in my trunk will help for those surprise situations.

Since the Tesla superchargers are pretty much everywhere, I use them almost exclusively. However, there have been a few times where an aftermarket charger was available but I couldn't plug into it. This adapter makes that option available.

I cannot recommend this adapter. First of all, it was identical to a cheaper adapter I bought here on Amazon. Both came in identical packaging and weighed exactly 550g. For comparison the official adapter weighs 820g. This adapter uses thinner metal parts and it heats up more during charging. I was able to hit a peak charging current of 150kW. To test the thermal performance of this adapter, I charged for 6 minutes at high power. I measured a temperature rise from 70F to 107.5F after this session. On a hot day with 100F+ temperatures, external parts of the adapter could reach 140F, which is a safety issue.Moving on to the build quality, it is quite sturdy and well sealed against weather. The plastic was strong and heat resistant and the rubber o-ring seals were resilient and well designed to keep out rain. The adapter was 100% functional with my Model 3 and is a good choice for the 3, Y, S, and X, which all have battery packs of 400V or below. But given that it is against the terms of service to use a third-party adapter at Electrify America and EVgo charging stations, and given the steep price (30% more than identical adapters on Amazon) and poor thermal performance, I had to take away 3 stars and cannot recommend it.
