This represents a leap forward in affordable headphone amps for bass and guitar from the last time I checked one out. I put this through the paces and can’t find anything I don’t like. The three thumb knobs are familiar and effective, giving you a simple mix of direct/amp, tone, and volume. There’s even an aux input to play along with tracks from your phone or an mp3/other device. It’s cheap, it’s plastic, but somehow it delivers clean tone and drives full size headphones. Not the loudest headphone amp but still, it works. I even tried this on guitar and it sounded nice! Obviously if you pay a lot more you get a lot more, but the value here is pretty incredible.

Definitely a case of "you get what you pay for".The amp is sized on par with most headphone amps on the market, and it is built in a plastic casing, which is what you would expect in this price range. Quality wise, it's on par for the price range. It works, sure, but there is volume pot on it is one of those ones that all of the volume change happens in the last 10% of the turn. Due to this, it is basically an on/off, with most of the knob being very low volume, the bottom 10% being no volume and the top 10% being full volume. No real gradation in the middle. The tone is virtually non-functional. I tried this with a few of my basses with different pickup configurations and there was very, very little difference in tone.I cannot, for the life of me figure out what the 'mix' knob is really for. The instructions are a total joke, and provide no information really at all. I connected my phone to the Aux input and thought for sure this would allow you to mix between the aux signal and the bass signal, but it did not. In order to do any kind of mix between the Aux and the bass signal, I had to adjust the volume on my phone since the volume for the bass signal on the amp is pretty sad.As a bedroom practice tool where you are going to control your volume with the control on your bass, this would be ok for the price. We aren't talking SVT tones here, just a basic, straight forward amplification through some earbuds.I have several headphone amps from various makers and this one comes in at the bottom, but it is also the cheapest.I just wasn't very impressed at all with this one.

This absolutely works for me. I can now practice my bass anywhere without being tethered to my rig. It allows me to practice without bothering the wife and I can even practice late at night without disturbing her. It's simple to use and I was playing in less than a minute. Simply put in the supplied batteries, plug into my bass, plug in headphones to the unit and turn it on. It works as I had hoped. Now I can sit in front out my computer and watch bass tutorials on my monitor and not rely on my phone when I'm forced to practice next to my amp and speakers. First day I got this, I played for a couple of hours. Very useful. Highly recommend!

Look, let's be real: Don't expect a lot out of this - it's under $20 as I write this. I have one that is in the $40 price range, and naturally that one does a lot more. This one lets you practice with headphones on. That's about it. But for electric bass FOR practicing quietly - that's fine sometimes too. No frills - heck not even any real tone control (use the one on your bass, not the non-functioning one on this unit) and you won't be disappointed. No real instructions to go by - just plug it in, put headphones in, turn it all the way up and it will play. It's not LOUD, but it is loud enough to use for basic practice. For the price, no one should expect much more - pots do cost money, as do electronics and switches/plastic. For what this is... be happy about what it is and does for the money. It's a usable, low-cost headphone amp for practicing your bass guitar.
