I don't usually wear hats in outdoor activities but am going on a rafting trip and in the equipment list a wide brimmed hat is deemed essential and this hat looked like it would be perfect. Have a lot of Columbia products so trust the brand. Indeed the hat is of good quality, although the top is thin and not quite as shapely as shown in the photo - you get a more rounded look instead of the stiffer edged one but not unflattering. The wide rim is thick enough to stay in place. The material feels good and cooling, and the neck flap - tucked inside a pocket on the rim if not needed - should come in handy when you have the scorching sun behind you. Price wise I'd say is mid range - there are similar hats costing a lot more and others somewhat less. Overall quite happy with this product and will update after testing on the trip should there be any issues.

Lightweight, breathable. Protects my face and neck from burning so easily. Feels like good quality and surprisingly it fits my big head haha

What can I say other than this is a well-made sun hat. One of it's differentiating features however is that it has a fold up neck protector that covers your neck, blocking it from the Sun. And when you're done with it you can fold it up and tuck it into a convenient little pocket inside the hat, so you don't have to use it all the time if you don't want to. Other than that it's well made, it's lightweight, easily packable so you can cram it down into a very small volume. For the price it's possibly a bit more expensive than your typical generic hat, but for a name brand within the outdoor market it's probably pretty on par.

It’s not warm yet here in Maine, but as soon as it is, I’ll be spending plenty of time out in the sun doing yard work and other things. I normally wear a ball cap with an UV-protective drape in the back, but it can be kind of hot underneath it. What attracted me immediately about this boonie hat is that it has a broad all-around brim, which will mean the drape isn’t needed often. But when it is, there’s one neatly tucked up in the underside of the brim, easy to roll out and then stow away out of sight when no longer needed.I did some research ahead of time about the Omni Freeze Zero technology included in the crown of this hat and discovered that it isn’t some kind of chemical treatment. Instead, it’s a method of knitting the material so that moisture is wicked away, and it also lowers the temperature when wet. Pro reviews I’ve read report that the technology really does help make the skin feel cooler. That will be a pleasure on those days when I’m out in the heat and sun.I’m usually wary of one-size-fits-all hats because my head is on the larger size (barely shy of 23 inches). This hat has a cinch in the rear that can tighten the fit. When it’s at full extension, I can fit four fingers between the hat and my forehead, so it should work for most people with even bigger heads than mine. If you have a smaller head, the cinch can make the fit significantly smaller and snugger.A bonus with the hat is how lightweight it is and how easily you can roll it up to pack it. It’s easy to put in a bag or even to tuck in a (large-ish) pocket.

The hat itself is good but I do have some personal issues with the design. The hat has good airflow and feels comfortable on the head. I feel it would be comfortable to wear on a long hike or doing yardwork, etcBut the neck flap is a strange material, shorter, doesn't cover as well as others I own, and attaches in a strange manner (with velcro on each side)My only other major issue is the price. This is a good hat but for almost $50, it is way overpriced imo. There are similar alternatives to this hat for well under $20. I just can't see the price justification. Overall, it is a fine hat and if you love Columbia brand, this will make you happy. But given the competition in the market, I feel similar alternatives out there for half the price.
