Giving 5 stars because the rod itself is great and definitely deserves the recognition! Very durable fiberglass rod that can really load up and fling bait a lot farther than a graphite rod. However, it’s not sensitive at all so this rod is more for long distance casting in “bait and wait” type situations, not constantly casting and retrieving lures.However, the packaging for shipping from Amazon was horrible, it’s basically thrown in a 6ft rectangular box with no protection at all. My box arrived all bent and beat up, but luckily the the rod only had a few slightly bent eyelets that I was able to bend back straight, but I can very easily see why so many others are leaving poor reviews and reporting completely broken eyelets. Yet I’ll likely risk ordering another one or two as I can’t find these locally anywhere.

Anybody writing a bad review about this rod has to be comparing it with rods that cost 2 to 3 times as much. Mine came UPS, very well packed and damage free. This rod is more than adequate for the half dozen to dozen times a year I surf fish. Ordering a second one today.

As I was feeding line through the line guides, an insert just fell out. Upon further inspection I noticed that one of the inserts further down was severely chipped and it would have cut right through my line first cast if I hadn’t noticed it. Bottom line, I don’t trust the guide inserts on this rod to stay in so I don’t trust this rod.It’s pretty disappointing because I had such high hopes for this rod but it turned out to be defective from the factory while my cheap $20 Daiwa FT surf rods are still going strong.I would highly recommend paying more for a higher quality rod with trusted components such as the Penn Battalion ($99-129) which has a Fuji reel seat and Fuji guides. If you don’t want to spend that much I’ve heard good things about the H2O XPRESS Graphite Surf Rod from Academy sports ($49.99).
