Kase is a reputable manufacturer, so my expectation is that this should work for its intended purpose. I acquired this as a form of insurance, but haven't used it on location yet, which is why the four star rating. I have a wedding scheduled to shoot (video) in a few months, so it'll get a thorough testing at that time. Using it is definitely going to cost at least one stop in light sensitivity, and others here have noted a color shift, but that shouldn't be a problem for video if you color balance like you should. Appears to be high quality construction. Once I've put it through a real-life test, I'll post an update.

I got this filter more for its advertised claim to cut through some of the haze of artificial lights when shooting at night. I don't generally have to worry about lasers except maybe at a concert which is a rare venue for me. This filter may be good for laser protection; I don't know, but I wouldn't recommend it for night shooting for a few reasons.First, it is a very dark filter. It will drop your exposure by 1 stop when compared to shooting with no filter. This will add a significant amount of noise to your image when shooting in low-light environmentsSecond, it has a huge color shift. When color correcting in Lightroom, I find that my photos are approximately 2000K cooler and +40 magenta when compared to the same image with no filter. This filter appears to block certain wavelengths more than others to the point that your colors will look more dull and artificial even after color correcting. Essentially, it is functionally lowering the CRI value of the light sources in your environment enough to be noticeable in my opinion.Third, I don't notice a significant change in light haze or detail clarity at night. Initially, the filter seems to reduce light haze in the viewfinder, but I think that is just because it makes the image look darker and much more blue. After adjusting your white balance and exposure, I would say that it has a negligible effect on reducing haze from artificial lights at night. To its credit, the glass on this filter seems to be pretty good. I observed only a slight loss of sharpness and detail clarity when comparing this filter to shooting with a bare lens.If you regularly need protection from lasers, perhaps, this filter serves a useful purpose, but if you're just a nighttime shooter like me, I see multiple cons and no pros to using this filter over a bare lens.

Testing this to protect your sensor by shining a laser into it is like testing a bulletproof vest. You just don't want to do it or trust it and just have to hope that it works. With that being said, I film a lot of events and a lot of DJs bring lasers even if I ask my clients to ask the DJs not too. They can burn eyes and camera sensors and just look tacky. But it still happens. So, I didn't even know this was an option until stumbling on to it. But what a great stumble it was because Kase is a brand I know for making well made camera and lens gear and if I am going to put blind faith into any company, it's definitely Kase! 5 stars!

It's very hard to say this lens works fully because it is hard to test. I genuinely hope I never have to know for sure that it functions as it should. I will say the images are very good,, and installation was simple.
