First, they weren't joking when they said lightweight. This is easily the lightest backpack in this size that I have ever had. Maybe less-that 2.4 pounds isn't quite "ultralight" but it's remarkably light. That said, the bag does not skimp on the comforts. The padded hip belt is comfortable and does a good job of keeping the weight off your shoulders. The shoulder straps are pretty well adjustable for height and your personal preference, and they are pretty comfortable too. The bag is also nicely uncomplicated. There aren't a lot of unnecessary pockets to deal with, which fits in well with the streamlined shape. The size of the bag is in an "in between" category. In my opinion, it's a bit large for regular day excursions, but just a bit on the small size for back woods camping (especially in the winter, but also depending on how efficient you are). I imagine that a minimalist could use it for multi-day trips, but I'm not that kind of hiker. That said, I always end up carrying my wife's stuff with mine, so it fits well into the "day-hike for two" category. That said, I've used this to carry everything I need for two nights in the city with plenty of room to spare (for souvenirs and for my wife's purse).

This is a great choice for day hikes and short trips. I’ve been using for everything from hiking, bike riding or even to my children’s soccer practice. It's very lightweight and comfortable which makes it very easy to carry. The design is very cool. The hydration sleeve, multiple pockets, and mesh panels for extra storage pretty much cover anything you might need. There's a 'lid-lock' for securing helmets, which is a nice touch. Which I didn’t think I would need at first but the first time I went bike riding it was very handy to have a place to stow my bike helmet. In terms of comfort, this backpack does a great job. It carries loads well, with most of the weight directed toward your hips and lumbar. The breathable molded back panel and adjustable shoulder straps make it easy to get a good fit. I will say that the waist strap is a bit thicker than Id prefer but for hiking, having that support is nice to have. The size is versatile but falls between categories. It's a bit large for regular day trips and a bit small for overnight camping unless you're packing minimally. We don’t really go camping but I imagine if you pack light, it could work. As a weekend bag for more civilized excursions it will easily fit in an overhead bin and I personally like to keep it in the front seat of the car with me when my family makes the long road trip to grandmas. Because of the size and design it works well to hold electronics, snacks etc.Overall, Im very happy with this and could recommend this to anyone looking for a quality bag for road trips, hiking, camping, biking or just whenever life calls for a compact midsized bag.

This is a great day pack! I love the trampoline back. This increases the air flow a lot. The pack is pretty compact, obviously based on the advertised volume. You will find that the thickness will keep the weight more towards your back; in the back to front dimension, it's not super huge, but the compartment is pretty tall. This helps keep the weight closer to your body for less stress on your back, in my opinion. This seems to be the same great quality as most Osprey packs. Good zippers, nice features like a keychain clip, helmet clip, etc. I like the stretchy outside pocket. This pack will suit me well to take a day's supplies with say, food, a stove, water, etc. I have a larger pack for overnight hikes where I need to take a sleeping bag, tent, etc.

It's hard to go wrong with Osprey. They put a lot of thought into designing their packs, use only premium and sustainable materials, and back it with a lifetime guarantee. The Talon series is designed to fit close to the body to allow for maximum agility across a variety of outdoor activities. It's remarkably light weight for it's capacity and designed to comfortably carry loads up 20 lbs. It's about as large as I'd ever need as a daypack, but just a little too small for overnight camping unless you are an ultra-minimalist. If you pack light, this could function as weekend bag for more civilized excursions and will easily fit in a plane's overhead bin. It doesn't have some of the bells and whistles of Osprey's activity-specific packs (although there is an actual whistle on the sternum strap); however, it still has everything you're likely to need while keeping weight to a minimum. The main compartment has a hydration sleeve and there are pockets on the interior and exterior of the top; the small zippered pockets at each hip on the belt are perfect for holding snacks. The stretchy mesh panels on each side are great for stashing a pair of flip-flops or a large water bottle, and the panel on the back can hold a wet rain jacket away from the rest of your gear. The 'lid-lock' works great for securing helmets with vents and is an appreciated feature on a multi-sport pack. While I haven't had an opportunity to take this out on the trail yet, I loaded it up with some camera gear and clothing to test it out. After adjusting it to fit my torso, it carries a load very well, with most of the weight directed toward my hips and lumbar. The breathable molded back panel is well contoured and fairly stiff for supporting the load while having enough flex to allow for maximum freedom of movement. The medium density padding isn't super plush, but it's appropriate for the loads the back is designed to carry.

I own a few other Osprey backpacks and love them. This medium sized Talon bag for men is no exception! It is lightweight and easy to wear for a full day. Functionally, there are multiple pockets and a large inside storage area for all of your belongings. If you're not used to higher end backpacks like this, you will definitely want to go to an Osprey dealer and get properly fitted. That can make all the difference in feeling comfortable with its use. It is rugged and durable. I've brushed past many branches with no tearing or blemishes on the material. If properly fitted, it is quite breathable and does not hold sweat up against your back. I would highly recommend the Talon if you are looking for a medium bag that is lightweight and is easy to use for a day trip or up to perhaps two to three days.
