The oscillating motion ensures lack of vibration and kickback. This motion also allows the use of cutting blades. The secret for the strong performance is the oscillating motion permitting extremely fine and delicate or more aggressive performance, depending on the accessory used or material worked on. The oscillating motion prevents sandpaper from clogging and it even allows cutting. The powerful permanent magnetic motor has a long lifetime and performs with high torque, which ensures for impressive stock removal. The electronic speed control allows for continuously variable speeds from3,000-10,000 oscillations per minute, so that the tool can be used on wood, steel, non-ferrous metal, glass, ceramics and plastics. The sanding plate has an adhesive pad to accept sandpaper or fleece with hook and loop system.

so far, it is a solidly built unit and works beautifully for the very fine detail sanding of wood and finishes. very happy.

UPDATE: I reached out to Proxxon via their support page and within 24 hours received a response that they would be sending me a new sanding head (they call it a grinding plate). I received the new grinding plate within a few days and it seems to be much better than the original. I must have just gotten a bad one. Excellent customer service, and am very happy with sander now. I can definitely recommend with confidence.Overall, the sander performs well, however the "loop" fastener that mounts to the sanding head and holds the sanding discs came off after only a few uses. Once this piece comes off, you have an expensive paperweight. I have tried gorilla glue, super glue and pvc glue, but nothing will hold the loop fastener for more than a couple minutes before it comes off again. I have reached out to Proxxon to see if the head can be replaced. We'll see how their customer service responds and I will update.

I have just begun using this tool. It works very well. I am using it in restoring some wicker furnature ans needed to get into some tight space. The proxxon works well for this. My biggest problem is that none of the five hardware stores in town don't carry replacement sanding paper triangles. Now I have to stop my work and order them on line. If I had known I would have gone with a more well known brand.

I do cabinet and furniture work, this machine is well built and handles well, however, I find that it is too small for normal cabinet work. Believe it would be and excellent tool for a model maker.
