Have used this eye-catching RAINS backpack for several weeks now. It passes several checks.This should be obvious, but this backpack favors the fashionable end of the scale over the functional. There is no outside pocket for a water bottle, so space has to be made for a water bottle inside. The laptop compartment fits anything around a 14" laptop fine, but pocket space is otherwise at a premium.This said, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of materials and durability. The first concern was the shoulder straps - would they stand a full day and not be cumbersome considering the strap design that resembles a waist belt more than a traditional backpack strap? And yes, they work fine. Partly because of the limited space, you won't find yourself carrying an overwhelming load so the straps carry fine and do not get uncomfortable with, say, a long walk.The second big concern I had was the elements. Would this "pleather" material stand up to the rain? While I wouldn't want to try this under a hail storm, it withstood a healthy pouring shower fine (to my unexpected surprise - I wasn't expecting a heavy pour of rain that day). Because of the design, I was worried about water leaking in - it handled that fine. And overall, the construction of this backpack has proven very reliable and durable.My one big reservation with the design - if you're in tight quarters (e.g. a packed train or bus) and have to carry the bag by its top strap handle, traditional backpacks endure this fine (with a dedicated handle) but because of the "carabiner" latch design that probably wasn't considered for bearing a significant load, this backpack doesn't handle those situations quite as gracefully. It actually handles these situations a little awkwardly.All-in-all, for those looking for a stylish backpack, it's still a worthy recommendation.

This backpack is stylish, has a minimal look, and it's waterproof. It's a bit on the smaller side for a backpack but works out just fine for laptop, charger, plus cables for a day trip to the office. The shell material feels smooth and the straps feel sturdy.

This is the best-looking backpack I have ever seen. The design is svelte, the material is flawless, feels good, and it has a simple minimalism that would look great on the red carpet. You will look COOL carrying this backpack.It is VERY tall and has a very limited thickness, so the dimensions are unusual. The flap over at the top and the carabiner closure with leather-look straps pull together the look into a backpack that is great for moving around campus or short trips. I especially like the magnetic fasteners, which make closing the flap simple - though the carabiner looks good but is difficult to fasten and unfasten. There is also a nifty little hidden zip pocket you can use for your phone or a wallet in the small of the back, but it is difficult to get to.Let's talk about weatherproofing - this backpack does that right. I tested it out in a rainstorm and by even running a shower over it and didn't have anything inside get wet. Though it looks leather at a glance, the polyester is much better with weather and doesn't stain the way leather would. Big props,However, a couple of serious issues:1) The laptop pocket, though easily capable of holding a 15" laptop, does so without any protective cushioning. I would never put a computer or tablet into this backpack without a good quality sleeve or protective case. And while the space in the case is not bad, it lacks structure - really just a big open space and a pocket that is too small for a laptop in a case. Stuff just ends up in the big space, jostling around, ripe for dings or scratches.2) The arm straps are too narrow and lack any padding to keep them from digging into your shoulders. And while they look AWESOME, they aren't comfortable if you are carrying anything that weights more than a couple of pounds. They have no stretch to them, so when you aren't using them, they flop around. 3) The case also is missing the essential handle or grip strap on the top to allow it to be moved when you can't use the arm straps. Try getting this out of an airplane's overhead compartment or pulling it out of your back seat and you will immediately notice the problem.So in a nutshell, this is a great-looking backpack with significant usability issues. Since I use backpacks from travel and daily equipment carry to work, it just isn't functional enough for me to recommend.

This is a high quality backpack. I had not previously heard of the RAINS brand, but after doing some research, they are known for making high quality and fashionable bags. This backpack certainly backs up those reports. It is made from an interesting leather-like material that is waterproof, which I appreciate. It has a durable metal clip as well as strong magnetic snap buttons that help secure the flap. The straps are narrow and made fro the same leather-like material. If you were to overload the pack and make it very heavy these traps might be uncomfortable, but it would be hard to get the pack that heavy, I think. This is because it doesn’t fit a whole lot of stuff in it, which is my only complaint. The shape is tall and narrow, which looks good and is fashionable, but doesn’t really work for carrying a wide variety of items, nor very many items. Overall I like the backpack, it is expensive, but that's what you pay for well crafted fashionable bags. Plus at the current price, it is a very good discount from the full retail price. I have given this bag 4 out of 5 stars and I would recommend it.

Love this backpack for work except the clampon closure is a bit fussy but overall I like it. Aesthetically, its lovely.
